New 96.1 Bham coming soon?

I saw on the FCC website where translator W241BD in Calera filed a license to cover a few days ago for its construction permit to move to 106.7.

When I was in Alabaster today, I checked 96.1 and the translator was not on the air. Now that W241BD appears to be gone from the 96.1 frequency (freeing up 96.1) will the construction permit for W241AI Gorgas to move to Red Mtn finally be coming to fruition? W241AI is supposedly going to be rebroadcasting one of WERC-FM's HD stations, maybe WERC-FM HD3.

Sounds logical.

I speculated a while back about Calera making way for the Gorgas move, I think.

I suppose it will benefit both translators; Gorgas can move to Red Mountain and the Calera one will be able to file another frequency move to get out from under WBPT's first adjacent. It could go to 107.3, which is a second adjacent to both WBPT and WUHT, or it could go to 106.5 or 106.3. Either way it too could probably move to Red Mountain.

I'm about 90% sure the Gorgas translator will feed off a Clear Channel HD of some sort. Where my curiosity really lies, however, is with the Calera translator. It's still licensed to EMF, but I imagine they had to reach some sort of agreement with Cox to let the the first adjacent to WBPT take place. Which makes me wonder if Cox will be using the translator to do something special. They don't run any HD at all, though. In fact, the only property they have that would be a candidate for FM is WAGG.

I've noticed WBPT has started IDing with W241BD Alabaster in their TOH

I heard the ID today given as "W241BD, Alabaster". Although W241BD is located in Alabaster, it is actually licensed to Calera.

****Just found this info...W241BD is now W294BL, as a result of the frequency change from 96.1 to 106.7.

They've been operating non-direction for a while with an STA due to wind taking down one of the towers a while back, and now there's a lot of construction work going on at the Fairgrounds so it may have become too expensive a prospect to put the second tower back up.

I said a long time ago they'd be stupid to not try to put WAGG on FM, even if it was through a translator. So they put WENN on instead.

As bad as 1320's signal is---especially at night, putting WENN on a translator first was probably the better idea. WAGG has a decent nighttime signal even in north Shelby County.

I don't see why they would be putting WBPT on a translator with the blowtorch signal they have, unless it's just to park it until whenever. I just drove down to northeast FL yesterday, and drove nearly 330 miles before I lost WBPT (from Ardmore TN to almost Albany GA) I actually had it overlapping with Tallahassee stations at one point.

Driving home monday I noticed 106.7 was on the air, and indeed carrying WBPT with Mono signal and terrible sound quality.
