New 96.7 Lite FM

I have to say that I am enjoying the enhanced music mix on 96.7 Lite FM. It is no longer sleepy elevator music. They have played music from the past three decades including Kansas - Dust In The Wind, Roxette - It Must Have Been Love, Vertical Horizon, Gnarls Bartley - Crazy, and Lilly Allen - Smile. It sounds like a broad version of the B 98.5 format. The only complaints are that the signal is weak and I still miss some of the jocks like Steve Goss.

However, the HD signal is strong and sounds awesome. 96.7 also has an HD2 station playing an eclectic mix of jazz like Marc Antoine, Thievery Corporation, and Art of Noise. It puts WJZZ to shame.

It sounds like Clear Channel put actually some effort into the format that they brought to this station. Does anyone know if CC plans on keep this station and increase the power to cover the metro area? It was rumored that CC was selling this station with the others.

Is Clear Channel experimenting with this format in Atlanta like they did with The Buzz in case one of the other stations doesn't produce results?

I would like to know before I get too attached and CC kills it. This could make for interesting discussion. No, I don't work for Clear Channel so please don't make this a bash CC thread.

You may not have to wait too long. Radio Shack has the Accurian which was on sale for $99 around Christmas. I think that the price has increased since then, but you may want to check it again around Thanksgiving. I have the Boston Acoustics Recepter ($150 on eBay) which I use as stereo output for my HDTV. The sound is spectacular on TV and especially HD Radio. It sounds better than Bose. The selection is not as good as XM, but to pay a little more upfront to get a quality stereo and be able to receive 15 additional radio stations for free...It was worth it to me! Not to get off topic, but we could easily start a new thread on HD Radio in Atlanta.

I've listened to the online stream a few times. This sounds like the average run-of-the-mill AC Atlanta has never had.

B98.5 is so attached to it's corporate research methods, I don't know what it would take to break them from it.

As part of the deal taking Clear Channel private, they are going to have to divest a station in their largest markets. (This is seperate from the announced sale of markets 100+.) Since 96.7 is the weakest, I would suspect CC put AC on this station to prop up the sale price.

I wish they would put this format on 105.7 or 105.3 to replace one of their Spanish stations.

If they were interested in AC long-term, this would have been on 94.9 instead of "The Bull".

I am hoping 92.9, 99.7, 100.5 (if Q goes to 99), or 106.7 (in other words, the next station to flip) goes AC in the near future. Atlanta needs a run-of-the mill AC, and would immediately put B98.5 out instantly.

I couldn't agree more with the original post in this thread.

After the Bull---- switch, I was feeling wistful about losing Peach/Lite. Being from Atlanta it was something I kinda grew up on. So, I started listening to 96.7 in late December to see how powerful the signal was. I was able to pick it pretty well.

What surprised me most was the music mix; it is infinitely more listenable than the original. When I heard "Jump" by Madonna, I about jumped outta my socks. Then when I checked yes.com and "Jump" was their most placed track, I was even more shocked. Recently, I stumbled upon Beyonce's "Irreplaceable". It would have taken the old Peach years to add that single.

It is a pretty decent mix (for Atlanta). Hats off to the bot programming the station.
