What's "do well"? You mean she'll bring a dazzling personality and crank up the ride home?

No.

Why? Because that's not what they ordered. They've said that what they want is music-intensive. With an emphasis on "music" and "intensive." She was brought in because she'll look nice on promo material. Sponsors will like her be cause she's cute.

But "do well"? As in "interesting", "funny", "regaling"... Sorry. Not in the cards.

It'll be "tell us who you just played, what time the next Braves game is and then what artist is coming up next. That's it. Now get over there for the webcam and touch your toes again!"

I have nothing against her and wish she would have ended up in a more creative environment. Ask Rhodes. or Rickman. I feel sorry for her.

Oh, okay. I wasn't aware that a jock couldn't succeed in a music intensive environment. My mistake.

Re: Trust me guys...

It isn't that she will not be able to succeed in a music intensive environment- it's just that we will not be able to get out of her what we would have been able to if she joined the station a year ago.

I understand why 96rock wants to cut back on talk with having The Regular Guys and Braves, but they are cutting out a lot of good stuff by doing that. Southside & Rhodes got completely shut off but the rest of the staff (not including TRG ofcourse) have seemed to get scaled back as well. Fin, English Nick, Geoff Cole, JT, and the rest of the local staff don't seem to talk nearly as much as they used to. Big Rig always has seemed to have little time. It's basically just- that song was, here's what's next, Braves game time, and station contests. It's one thing if the jocks are boring, but the guys on 96 are quite interesting I think and it's a shame not to get to hear very many of their opinions/views/factoids.

I listen to 96rock because I like the music, but ultimately (like with other stations) its the jocks that keep me coming back day after day because otherwise why listen to radio? There are better alternatives as far as music is concerned. 96rock mixes it up much better than the River, but they still seem to play certain songs way too much.

I always liked when 96rock went all Classic Rock how they kept the attitude of a rock station and not an oldies station, however, when Southside & Rhodes went out- so did most of the station's energy (outside of mornings)- becuase the rest of the jocks lost out too by being nearly silenced. Hopefully, Jennifer will get a chance to introduce herself to us beyond announcing song titles and game times and she won't get too hurried along to get to "The Chain", "In The Air Tonight" or "Hotel California" faster.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying. I wasn't aware that they were going in such a music intensive direction for afternoons, but that's the disadvantage of not living in Atlanta anymore. I grew up listening to 96 Rock, especially in the days of Christopher Rude's Wake Up Crew and Kaedy Kiely and that's what my mind still recalls (I've lived in Mississippi basically since 1993).

As for Jennifer Reed, she used to do middays on Rock 103 in Memphis which is the station I do weekends for now. Rock 103 is an extremely personality driven station. Jen always had great local info, artist info, and sure, her midday show was a bit more laid back than morning or afternoon drive, but she is one of those jocks who could convey more in 15-30 seconds than some jocks do in 3 minutes. I hope 96 Rock won't put THAT much of a leash on her to where she can't do what she does best, but we'll see. It would be a shame to waste her talent.

I told one person that Jen has the potential to be the next Kaedy Kiely, and being that Kaedy was such a big influence on my own radio career, I don't take such a statement very lightly. That's how good I think Jennifer is.

Re: Trust me guys...

Maybe saying they were going in a music intensive direction was their way of saying we do not like Southside Shirley and Rhodes. It is like in the corporate world when they want to fire people they politely call it a re-organization. I am sure she wil get to show her percsonality and they will promote her. We just didn't always need SS & R's constant lame attempts at being The Regular Guys.
