Biz Listener...that is your opinion. These songs would not have been popular for 40+ years if the masses thought that they "sucked"..... I guess that the majority rules! These Oldies But Goodies are timeless and beloved by many!

Come one, even you have to agree this station is extremely
monotinous.

It's beginning to sound more and more like River without the AOR...but still better than Fox/Cool at the end...of course that's not saying much.

Brent: What happened? You were all over True Oldies when they flipped...or have they burned you out too? :) :) :)

No, I love 106.7, I thought he was still referring to the River. I was replying to Bizlistener. ;)
.

This topic like the station is so DEAD!

It will be interesting to see the next books numbers on the River..... I bet they are down..... same 97 songs over and over......................

What I hear of 97.1 the River sounds dead to me. Same 97 songs over and over and over again. They are still calling themselves "new" after 3 years, same old imaging....ya da...ya da ...ya da......... Can anyone say that they could listen to this station on a regular basis? They lack the 5,000 song rotation of True Oldies 106.7 and have a worse rotation that some other Atlanta radio stations....

The #1 Non-Ethnic FM Music Station when you posted this. As another poster said, it was an ass whooping when it has 2:1 its competitors combined.

Clearly, you are 180 degrees out of phase with the Atlanta Listeners.

Keep trying. Even a broken clock is right eventually for 60 seconds.

The River STILL sounds dead! They are STILL playing the same 97 songs over and over again and still calling themselves NEW-after 3 years. LISTEN to THEM! They sound weak and boring. They have just fired their PD and most of their on-air staff-if that tells you anything.

At least they HAVE an air staff and someone in the building programming the station.

Your heroes have... Imus... and Scott Shannon in NYC.

Oh the other thing the River has that 106.7 doesn't: an audience.

Obviously the audience doesnt see it the way you do - as the audience made them the #1 Non-Ethnic FM Music Station - they only care enough that the river plays their favorite tunes. Again, thanks for your input - as it continues to lets us Radio People know that they are doing exactly the correct thing to garner an audience instead of pleasing you. Given the choice in pleasing you or the audience, the smart companies will always come down on the side of the audience.

WYAY-FM True Oldies 106.7 is alot better station than the river. Much larger playlist, better music, spiff......... WYAY is growing their audience in a rapid way. Trust me, the River will continue to lose listeners as they tire of the same 97 songs over and over and over again. And by the way, The River just FIRED their PD and most of their on air staff. That is NOT a good sign..............

Continue to loose listeners? Interesting - to continue to loose listeners indicates that one is trending down.

Furthermore, as demonstrated in other threads, WYAY has not grown their audience in any rapid way.

Again, you prove to know nothing.

Read the latest book!!!! WYAY continues to grow! Many other posters have also pointed this out!!! What do you have against the Oldies?

Im assuming it's not his dislike of "Oldies" but rather YOUR incapacity to understand what the "River" has done. Same songs or not, WSRV has struck a nerve with listeners. WYAY had a nice book, lets see if they can maintain that for 3 years like the "River" has. I'm guessing... no.

The firing of Chris Miller, (the only on-air person to be let go despite your posts of "Most of their on-air staff were fired"), had nothing to do with performance but ALL about economics. They lost a good man and a great programmer.

Props to Citadel for filling a niche with oldies, lets see if they can maintain or grow those numbers. I doubt it.

For a while WYHT, Mansfield called themselves "The Always New Y105" which was kinda catchy-shifting the "new" focus on "new" music-not brand.

Wow, The River really has that strong of ratings? Unbelievable. Sheeple. Baaaa. Unless one has stock in the company or actually works for that station, I can't see any reason to like or support something so unoriginal, boring and repetitive.

Agreed. I do not like the station either and can't for the life of me understand why so many people listen to the same songs ove and over again but I won't argue with its success.

Listeners always complain about tight playlists. But despite what people tell the stations, tight playlists have been proven to work, and it's been that way for years and years. When stations start playing deeper cuts, ratings go down. It happened when Dwight Douglas, one of the most creative people in radio, programmed Z93.

RTibbs, great to see you on the board again!

Thanks Roddy I took a few days off and spent some time exploring other avenues of the radio industry. I might put up a post later on these findings. Interesting stuff.

I can't stop from laughing after reading your post. First off, you're right, the station has struck a nerve with listeners, but not the favorable one you suggest. Second, and this is the part that makes me laugh the most, being let go IS being fired. People just use the term "let go" to be more PC or make themselves feel better. Get over it you got fired, it's not uncommon in this industry and for no reason at all. Just be a big boy and deal with it. And the final lesson, at that company PDs don't program, it's all coming from Bob Neil.

Actually I have read it - clearly you have not.

A year ago WYAY had 288,500 12+ listeners. In the Summer 2008 book they had 268,400. By the last month of the Summer Book, September, they had fallen to 204,600 listeners.

Last Summer WYAY had a 2.4 share 12+ and a 2.7 share 12+ last Fall. They ended the September, the last Diary Month Ever with a 2.4.

Since switching to Oldies, the 12+ Month by Month the numbers have been:

April 2.2
May 1.9
June 2.1
July 2.1
Aug 4.0
Sep 2.4

So they are behind where they were a year ago and the station has shown NO growth.

Finally, what do I have against Oldies? Absolutely nothing - just a strong distaste for BS Artists who are clueless in reference to what they are posting about and try to state it as fact.

"Agreed. I do not like the station either and can't for the life of me understand why so many people listen to the same songs over and over again but I won't argue with its success."

It is baffling, but then again, 50% or so in this area are going to vote for Obama. Go figure.
