New 99.1 frequency in Worcester?

I actually just heard an announcement on WPLM that a new radio station on 99.1 will be signing on in Worcester, obviously interfering with the signal. Is it going to be a pirate, or what? I somehow think that if there was going to be a legal signal, it would be posted on here, and it does seem like Worcester has an awful lot of pirate stations.

But how well does WPLM come in in the Worcester area? I can’t imagine it coming in clear, especially in southern Worcester county because of overlapping interference with WORC, though I’ve been told that WPLM usually beats WORC due to the stronger signal.

Well, if they said "will be signing on", I don't think it is a pirate.

Neither WPLM or WORC come in very well in the city in a car but both are fairly strong in my house in the northern part of the city. As another post points out, this is going to be a translator for WNEB in Worcester. It’s an EWTN affiliate and they also own WESO in Southbridge. Apparently they must be doing quite well to add a translator, too.

That would seem to be a good area for Catholic-formatted religious station to do well, much better than a Protestant evangelical station.
