New 99X.com is up!

So, basically, its an empty shell of a site with "Coming soon" signs hanging where content should be....

is it? is it really?

Why yes, yes it is!!!

I find it to be quite an improvement..less like a 64kb stream and more like a 128kb stream. Can't say much for the play list....most of which is the same as Lithium on Sirius.

*yawn*...

I hope for all of our sakes that this is NOT the next generation of radio...

That's what I think it needs to separate itself from other internet radio stations: jocks. Why else would anyone listen? There's already pleanty of internet radio out there that's as good, if not better, and they have personalities. One such is www.popfreeradio.com, whose based in Kansas City. He was so pissed at the Alternative/Active Rock station there (ID'd as "The Buzz"), that he started this site, and has been at it for two years. The station's grown, and has a real good KC presence. The PD/Owner (radio name Chronic the Hedgehog) actually got an award from KC's version of CL.

The biggest difference is that all of these internet radio stations are, pretty much, Mom & Pop startups that don't have the capital to hire professional talent, so most of them sound like college radio. With 99X.com's corporate backing (if Cumulus will invest enough into it), they can have a really huge presence on the internet radio scene.

I think it's great what they're doing -- hopefully it will generate some interest in HD Radio. Aside from WABE's subchannels and WSB on 97.1, the subchannels in Atlanta haven't been well promoted and aren't likely to attract much interest.

u would think they would have gotten the site up 100% by now but theres not much up there yet. guess they r busy playing with their new toy-crap 100.5

I will never support 99x.com for 1 freakin reason: Jillian is the friend of John Dickey's daughter. She sat with Axel for the last month and she admited to Axel she never heard of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. She is 23 years old people with ZERO radio experience!!!!
WTF?

This is a huge slap in the face to anyone who supported 99x Music.

It's just a bad f*cking idea. For starters, nobody wants to watch radio. They don't even offer a standard audio-only webcast. And the website only works with IE - which is baffling, considering that it's just running Windows Media Player, not anything IE-specific. (It'd be one thing if they make the thing a music video website, but I don't imagine that happening - and it's not necessarily a great idea.)

What really got to me was the press release claim of trying to open up 99x to a "global audience". In the late 90s, Steve Craig was contacted by folks at the science station in Antarctica noting that they were regular listeners to the Retroplex via 99x's webcast. I can't fathom how a station could possibly be more global than that. Plus, going global and appealing to a global audience means offering something that nobody local can offer - and there are stations all over the country doing exactly what "99x" is doing. There's nothing unique about it. Throw every song that 99x has ever played into rotation and throw in some Live X performances, and you might have something.

If you liked 99x at all and really want to make yourself puke, click on the FAQ and watch the FAQ video (it shows up under the main video). Gary Lewis tells us all about how groundbreaking 99x.com is. Wow, I'm sold. Apparently nobody else was available to film that?

That's one version of the story. Not the correct one, mind you.

Besides- alot of people got their start by making in-roads with the bosses. If that's why you don't listen, that's pretty lame.

Give 99x.com a chance. I doubt they had any more time to plan for it than they did for the Q switch, the X fm signoff, or the Rock 100.5 launch. They have... what... 5 people running all of that? Give 'em another week to settle in- then cast your stones.

I think the 99X AV Room (www.99xavroom.com) was a better foundation for the 99x.com then what they put up... why relaunch yet another site when you already had one designed to be about video, blogs, etc?

OK.... Give me the correct version. I might have confused John Dickey's daughter when I should have meant his girlfriend's friend.
It doesn't matter. She does not know 99x music and they fired the founders of the radio station. They aren't going to do anything to get to back to 99x's roots which is new music not programming by consensus. So no matter what people say 99x is dead.

and here i thought gillian was a cgi... who knew shes a real person and a dickey or a dickey pet.
thanks for the info. now i hate cumulus more then ever. they have enough money they could have added a station without killing X.
