I would guess a lot of people tune in a countdown show because either they tuned in a favorite station for music and that's what's on at that hour instead of a live jock, or because they want to hear the latest songs with maybe some information about the songs and artists. I used to like the old syndicated Ralph Emery show that had a guest artist sit in and tell stories each week and play some of their songs telling stories about them plus playing the current hits. Some of the syndicated countdown shows now just sound like somebody else's morning show from another market, lots of yucking it up between songs. I always thought Bob Kingsley did a great, professional, straight delivery.
He was let go by ABC after 20 some years replaced by Kix Brooks, and has started his own competing syndicated show, much as Casey Casem did when he left AT40, for Jones Networks. At the time Kingsley took over the show from country commedian Don Bowman, he was heard on many country stations nationally as the 24/7 voicetracking jock on the syndicated "Great American Country" (not to be confused with the cable network). It will be interesting to see if Brooks is seriously committed to this radio gig or not, replacing someone who has been in the radio business for at least 30 some years and has won numerous awards for the show. Sometimes singers think radio is "easy" and find out its different than other forms of entertainment.
Kingsley's website doesn't indicate if any stations around here will be affiliates.
