NEW AFTERNOON DRIVE JOCK AT OLDIES 98.9

Gene Slater takes over monday for afternoon duties at Fox, 98.9; Gene is a seasoned pro and a good guy. He gave me my big break into radio at 98FaMe in Poughkeepsie in the mid 80's. He put me on the air when no one else would stick their neck out for someone with no on-air experience. Sounds like he's live this afternoon getting used to the equipment. Gene's delivery is good and tight, something this station needs more of. Good pipes. Welcome, Gene!!

Whatever happened to Bob O? He is currently doing mornings on WJGK's "Fox 103.1" and he is no longer doing middays on "Fox Oldies" since he didn't do double shifts. I'll have to record it by tomorrow. I hope "Fox Oldies" needs more personality like Rich Stevens, Rick MacCaffery, Gary Lee Schwartz, Jeff Samantic and a few others from the former WBPM's "Cool 92.9" in the mix. Maybe Buffalo Bob Corisino would do weekends replacing Joe Manglass for Sunday mornings or adding a syndicated "Doo-Wop Stop" with Cool Bobby V on Sunday nights would be a great fit for "Fox Oldies", because, it is still be heard on WROW's "Magic 590" in Albany. Or maybe Rick McCaffery should bring back the "Solid Gold Jukebox" to Friday nights along with the "Doo-Wop Cruise". Rick McCaffery has been part of the Hudson Valley radio staple for many years going back to WKIP, WCZX, WBPM and back to WKIP. His last WKIP show was from around Halloween 2009, but he has not being heard in the Hudson Valley area regularly for 4 years, but I hope he should make a comeback to do his Friday night shift to WGNY-FM's "Fox Oldies" and Rick McCaffery would be a great fit.

Let's hope that "Fox Oldies" needs more personalities coming.

What language is this? It's certainly not any English derivative.

There was no advance notice to Gene taking over afternoon drive, except one of the drop in liners the day before. Wonder if he will be voicetracked like corsino was?? I think he may be live this week at least by the sound of it, probably getting used to the studio. He sounds great--a welcome change to corsino's mindless drivel and stupid comments about every tune. Keep the music moving--don't stop the music---not a difficult concept to understand. Now they need to do something about the morning ego---van.....

One problem with getting Van to leave would be getting his head to fit through the door!
Actually I think he still does have a loyal following (not me) or at least Sunrise management thinks so.
