Wow, Tragically Funny, or, Comically Tragic, I'm not sure which.

Whatever it is though, you guys went out with a style that truly represents the entity whiche thereto is indeed to this day WNYG.

The ownership and format has changed quite a few times since then. It's nice to think though that that the 169 foot stick protruding from the swamp off the southwest quadrant of 109 and 27 is still alive with 1440 kHz of RF, at least for now anyway. Hopefully it will continue to do so in that way.

Ah yes....12 years ago......and only one year later after the fact we were split up at various places of broadcast...wondering "Why the hell aren't we having as much fun as we did back in Babylon?"

Although MetroRadio came close (basically since it was almost solid WNYG alumni), I have NEVER had as much fun at a radio station, and that was WITH all the BS that came as extra baggage at 'NYG).

One note of interest about a clip on that montage.......back in the early '90's, there was a lot of "corporate synergy" seemingly between WNYG and WLNG. Voices were swapping back and forth all the time. Ed Newlands and Mike Erickson had their own shifts out in Sag Harbor with Neil Machicco, Frank Foglia, Harry Hepcat (via phone), and myself appearing as show sidekicks once in a while. Also, people like Bob Aldrich and Frankie "C" Stekkas wound up behind the microphones at WNYG on occasion. (Bob, we KNOW you post here...care to add any 'comments'? :-D )

And then, of course, there was the occasional call-in from a one "Tony Beach", who was known to phone in a few talk-ups between records, and also prepared that nice little message for us that aired on 4-17-94. It was none other than WLNG's own Jim McGahn. The original phone call went exactly like this:

"Jim, wanna make a Tony Beach 'Goodbye' message?"
"Sure, Mike.....roll tape"

.....and he did that totally off the cuff--in one take. The man was a great wit. Wherever Jim is now, we miss him, because he SHOULD be on the air somewhere, but seems to have gone missing.

12 years........damn........I miss that dump. As Mike himself said...."Yes, at one time, we had it all."
