New Alabama AMs?

A 'Taylor on Radio-Info' post from a few days ago said that the FCC had approved some of the exclusive AM applications made during the last filing window. Does anyone know what (if any) proposed stations for Alabama got the okay to go forward and build?

I've noticed on recnet.com there's an AM 1030 (10kw days, 1kw nights I think) licensed to Maxwell AFB with the transmitter at or close to the 740 site in East Montgomery.

I noticed 1030 @ Maxwell too, but will that one actually get built? It'd need six towers for just 1000 watts of night service.

I'm particularly in what's going on in the Mobile area. You had 'WKTT' calls assigned for the new Saraland station at 1160, but now it seems the CP for the unbuilt WHOA 770 is in play instead. It has a lot of towers for night service, too (four for 800 watts). But they've got the okay for 38,000 watts during the day, so even a directional signal would have to grab some ears.

There's another APP for a 1030 (50 kW days, 3 towers), licensed to Brantley. The city. Except according to the FCC, the tower site will be northeast of Selma! ::)

I believe that would be the Brantley in Dallas County, just outside of Selma, not the Brantley in Crenshaw County. Brantley (Crenshaw County) has an FM station, WAOQ, which is actually in Luverne. Of course, Luverne has an FM station, too...but it is in Montgomery.

Ahh okay. My map doesn't show a Brantley in Dallas County. Thanks for the tip.

The only Brantley, in Dallas County, is a Junior High School.  It's located near the intersection of Water Avenue and Highway 14 east, just outside of Selma.  There is no town by that name, in Dallas County.

I'm assuming that this station is going to be built, in Crenshaw County town of Brantley.  Haven't heard or read anything about it.

If I hear anything about this, I'll be sure to pass the info along.

It's in Dallas County. 32-31-46N/86-51-33W. See the links.

My Rand McNally does show a Brantley in Dallas County, on Highway 14, five miles east of Selma. The Census Bureau doesn't recognize it though. (it only lists the one in Crenshaw County)

The Brantley near Selma is probably one of those old railroad stop towns that no longer has any significance. I know my grandfather's hometown of Lynn, Georgia is still on maps, but there's nothing there now but a farm.

I'm going to support that statement, since I'm a lifelong resident of this area and Selma.  Far as I know, this Brantley doesn't even have a post office.  They get their mail from the Selma area post office and also use the Selma area phone prefixes and zip codes.

The Dallas County jail is located within this area.  As you're traveling down Highway 14 East from Selma, you'll come to an intersection, once you cross a bridge.  This intersection will allow you to turn left, to get to the jail and Selfeild Industry park.  Turn to the right and then go a mile or two and thal'll take you to the Brantley Jr. High School.

As you get to that intersection, you'll also see a railroad track to the left.  At one time, Northeast Dallas County and Northwest Autaga County were major stops for the trains that came through this area.

My grandmother used to ride on those trains, during her childhood days in Vine Hill. (Small town in Northwest Autauga County)  She showed me these tracks and the other landmarks of interest, everytime we went to Vine Hill to visit her relatives and the Church she grew up in.
