New AM for Grandview Heights

Take a look at the FCC AM Query webpage for WBLL in Bellefontaine. It seems they are trying to get it relicensed to Grandview with a 3-tower daytime only array down in the Grove City / Urbancrest area. I guess they must figure that if CC can move in FM'ers from Chillicothe and Marion, they should be able to move in an AM'er from Bellefontaine.....The more the merrier!!

The FCC may allow it to go through since it still leaves Bellefontaine with a FM station, which Lou Vito owns as well. (98.3 WPKO)

Format???

Well looking at the current lineup for WBLL on http://www.wbll.com they have Art Bell (George Noory?), Daybreak USA, Laura Ingraham, Paul Harvey, Dan Patrick and Dr. Laura. Seems like an eclectic mix but mostly in competition with 610. I assume we would be looking at a format flip if moved to Grandview? What could possibly go on an AM that is not already being serviced? Maybe Oldies a la 1230? Although if it failed miserably on 1230 I don't see 1390 succeeding at it. Keep as Talk but pick up different programming so as not to duplicate what is already on the air? Maybe they could go Sports and pick up Jim Rome to placate the Clones out there.

They could do a "Hot Talk" or something Short North/Grandwiewy that would appeal to 20 somethings and get Volkswagen ad dollars.

Not knowing a whole lot about the "Hot Talk" format, does it take a liberal or conservative slant? Or everything? I would think the liberals looking for talk radio in Grandview are already getting their fix from 1230 and the conservatives are getting their fix from 610. How much of a call is there for talk radio? I mean right now there is 610, 1230, 1460, and a good deal of talk on various other stations like WCBE and WOSU-AM. Can Columbus support another talk station? I mean that legitimately, I have no clue.

I think there are enough people out there screaming about how their favorite show isn't on the air in Columbus anymore be it Imus, Dr. Laura or Jim Rome.

Or they could shock us all and go Radio Disney :D

Re: Format???

Looks like the app is for a Daytime Only license? That's off at 5pm during winter months. They are going to have a hard time selling any format.

Ah ha... Radio Disney gains legs because the kids will be headed to bed anyway :D

Re: Format???

I was thinking not very political. More like what's going on around the community, town, state, etc. Not too politically charged. It might be cool to listen to unbiased type talk/news. What's going on at theaters, live bands, sales at stores, bar promotions, record releases, movie critics short segments on technology, book reviews, consumer reports, finances for first time homebuyers, stuff like that and DEFINITELY some comedy channel stuff. Restauant reviews would be cool too. Things to do on dates and other things magazines talk about, they could team up with a magazine.

It wouldn't get much ratings, but it could be targeted to a desireable audience.
I might give Columbus a soul.

Since it's a daytimer it will have to be a niche format that is not dupicated elsewhere. The signal sits mostly over the west side, so a Hispanic format would be a good choice.

Re: Format???

Radio Dizney??? God, what a thought. I'm shocked another WFAC type station hasn't shown up yet

WBLL presently operates overnights with some 70 watts. They could probably get more juice using their directional array for daytime...also at night.

Since Salem only has one religious teaching station in Columbus, I would think this facility could be worth some serious $$$.

One thing is for sure, Lou Vito knows what he is doing. His operation up there does more $$$ than a lot of Columbus operations.
