New AM for Jackson & Non-Com Sutter Creek

Before his death, Chris Kidd had been granted a CP for a new AM station located in Jackson. Subsequently, his executor filed this transfer of control application

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101354140&formid=316&fac_num=160449

It was approved on 3/1/10.

Now Eastern Sierra Broadcasting (under the executor) has sold the station to Motherlode Broadcasting headed by Jim Guidi (former GM of KNGT).

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101357836&formid=314&fac_num=160449

The beauty of this is...Now Jackson will have local radio again!

Mr. Guidi is also on the board of :

Motherlode Public Radio

Which is an applicant for the 107.5 Class A non-com NCE for Sutter Creek

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101338771&formid=340&fac_num=183584

There are 10 applicants for this new non-com. I believe Motherlode has a fighting chance in the point system because they are (A.) Local and (B.) have no other licenses. One of the competing applicants for the 107.5 frequency are our friends at Educational (We Don't Have Enough Stations) Media foundation.

The FCC under pressure from certain groups trying to free up non-com NCE frequencies and protect local service, have designated a few allotments for NCE applicants. Another nearby community is Westley, CA with 95.5 Class A.

Some of you may remember 107.5 in Sutter Creek as a CP (KSAC) that never had a license to cover and the CP was canceled and call sign was deleted several years ago.

This is good news indeed. Say what you want about the old KNGT - and lots of people said bad things about it - but it was live, local, and it's where everyone turned to when there was a fire or a snowstorm. It still exists as a webcast, an SCA, and an audio channel on cable TV, and these people are still providing service to their community. Congrats to Jim for pulling this off. He's truly what radio is all about, and I'm sure the station will actually do what broadcasters are supposed to do - serve the public.

That's interesting that KSAC never got a license to cover. I know they were on the air for a while but had to move their transmitter because of RF blanketing interference. They built a whole new tower and were on the air (I guess with the CP) for quite a while after that - it seemed like maybe a year. The tower is still there - South of Hwy 88 on a hill above a hydroponic greenhouse facility.

I am guessing that Jim Guidi will simply simulcast the Hometown Radio format on the AM dial? Unless he tries another format like News/Talk (like KVML-1450 Sonora)? A combination of local News & Talk with Syndicated Talk.

I might be wrong but wasn't KSAC-107.5 a Regional Mexican Radio Station during its brief time on the air?
