This is public information that the station was sold on the fcc web site. do not know the format. All i know is the station will be built in the old klde building at 5353 west alabama st where many of us use to work.
The station is not even built. It should be around june. I can tell you this will be an english radio station. The new GM and on PD will be in around this time.

I hear it's another sports talk station. Rumor has it that Richard Topper of 610AM will be the new GM

Pick the answer that best applies:

A) New

B) Exciting

C) Unnecessary

Awright, don't everybody raise your hands at once!

I have heard rumors that this is going to be a 50k signal.

I ask you why would anyone want to put another Sports format in this city?

None of the current are pulling in that great of rating?

Your rumors are a little behind...KILE IS a 50KW daytimer now....

What exactly IS KILE Radio?

Here's what they say about themselves on their website.

"KILE AM 1560 Radio is licensed to the City of Bellaire Texas by the Federal Communications Commission. Our transmitter is located just south of the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, and our signal covers most of the greater Houston-Galveston metropolitan area.

KILE is a brokered time (sometimes referred to as a block time) commercial AM radio station. This means that we provide a broadcast platform for a fee to
independent programmers who plan and produce their own programs. Our family of independent programmers are very dedicated and talented individuals and organizations that provide excellent multi-cultural programming for our community.

KILE is one of the few 'big city' radio stations that is independently owned, operated, and totally committed to community service.

Our programmers are 100% supported by their advertisers and sponsors. Your support is always appreciated. Join us on AM 1560 in the Houston, Texas area, or listen to us on the internet anywhere."

Hmm. Good luck with that.

Re: What exactly IS KILE Radio?

For the record, the move of the station from Port Lavaca to Bellaire was finalized in 1999, but the call letters had been changed from KGUL (no relation to the old KGUL-TV Galveston) to KILE in 1996. So the station (and their brokered time format) has been around for a number of years. During that time they were able to increase their power from 800 to 1,000 watts and eventually got approval for the huge increase to 50,000 watts. After years of legal wrangling and extensive engineering work, completion of the new facility occcurred just months ago.

The rumors of KILE switching to all-sports under their new ownership are true, and word has it that John Granato is headed there. But maybe not right away; quoting from the Chronicle story on the subject:

"Granato, who co-hosts KILT’s morning drive time show, has asked a Harris County state district court to declare the contract invalid and to prevent CBS Radio from enforcing a non-compete clause that would prevent him from working on air for another station for six months after leaving KILT."

Full story is at www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/sports/4744632.html You may also want to check reader comments following the story; pretty interesting story developing here.

I'm sorry, but if KILE is running at 50kw, I need to buy all new radio equipment. I have tried to pick up KILE from every part of Houston known to man, on various radios and it is still very staticy and unlistenable...except within 10 or so miles from Bellaire. KTRH at 50kw is listenable just about anywhere up and down the Gulf. Is there something I am missing here?
