The only thing that fits is the current application for PETAL on 1550 kc. It's 3kw day/ 250w at night with a whopping 6 towers.

Now fortunately, being at the top of the band, the towers are short, but that's still a honkin' array by anyone's measure. Wow. 1550 is a tough frequency; there is a lot to stear around at night.

Now, Charlie's not the applicant. But, perhaps he has cut some sort of deal. And, there is no CP issued, as I write.

Of course, I could be wrong. But, I rarely am.

I thought it was going to be 1530 with 50,000 watts. 3,000 watts won't do a whole lot at the top of the band. 1580 in Hattisburg barely gets out of the parking lot.

Sorry. Typo. Is is on 1530. 1550 wouldn't fit; 10kc too close to WORV. I shouldn't type this stuff after writing all day.

And there are really two different amendments on the app. One requests 50kw. The other, 3kw.

But, as mentioned, there is no CP issued yet. These things take a while. And, of course, Poplarville has to successully move off-channel.

And, I don't know anything about this Walter Saunders guy, except that he has apps out for a few stations, including 1230 in Laurel (which, by the way, is mutually-exclusive with apps for Hattiesburg and Taylorsville).

Two apps for AMs in Hattiesburg. Why?!

Good Gawd!!! I thought ol' Charlie was as dead as Elvis!

If it is indeed an attempt to bring Holt Broadcasting back like the phoenix, ya gotta give him gonads. Wonder if Tibbett would go back to work for him? He's still in the Pine Belt radio biz.

Guys,

Charlie Has WBKH 950am on the air now with an upgrade in the works to 10kw. I know he has to move that at some point as the former owners wants the land. It may be that this is the rumor concerning a Holt station in the burg. Hes programming it N/T and has asked Tibbett several times to come over and run it. Tibbett has repeatedly declined.

It was my understanding that he is going to have to go to a multiple tower array to kick up to 10kw. Havent talked to him in a while, but hes still moving and shaking. Same old Charlie if you know what I mean.

Also, he still drives to McComb every day........eeks!!!

950 is now (officially) WHSY.

Boy, if he wants that thing on at night -- better than the few watts he has now -- that's gonna be tough. He'll have to protect Houston which won't be easy. Maybe if he points SE, out to sea? Due east would bump a couple of other stations.

At, even if the 10k can be done (and, btw, nothing is on file), one must remember the 10k didn't help 890 much, did it?

But, I don't want to be negative. If he can do it, God Love Him.

Speaking of 890. Is it gone for good? It used to go almost to Jackson, but now its nothing there. The last time I heard the station it was at very low power and could barely be heard in Hattisburg. I heard that a plane hit the tower but it looks like nobody ever fixed it.

Since I'm new to this forum, I went back and reviewed some of the older discussions, like this one from 5 years ago. Did anything ever come of this application, if indeed it did exist, to invest in 6 towers at the high end of the AM dial? This is hard to imagine, especially since the Laurel/Hattiesburg area has a long list of AM stations that have folded.
