New AM Log-one I've wanted for years! 9/11/2012

I logged an AM station last night that has been tentative for years, but just IDed last night!

800: XEROK Ciudad Juarez, CHI; lots of SS talk, mention of "ranchera", another mention of "Chihuahua, Mexico" [the province]. The Chihuahua mention gave it away. New Log 450, 150kw (or lower, was NOT strong like what some people had during the X-Rock 80 days), 1373 miles.
Also: an UNID kept popping in and out with C&W. Heard "Cowboy Casanova" Carrie Underwood around 2045 PDT, and then back again with "Chicken Fried" Zac Brown Band around 2115 PDT. Closest one is KDDD-TX, but it's a 250w daytimer. Who was this? Does XEROK sometimes have a "country" block?

EDIT: I also logged the Naval Kitsap TIS from Bremerton on 1610 Saturday afternoon, for a new log (449).

Very nice. Still waiting to hear that up here in Ohio. Not thinking it will happen. I've written before here of my many problems getting it the two-plus years I lived in Houston.

Last night seemed to offer very good conditions for signals from Mexico.
730 AM WPIT locally was getting stomped all over by a Mexican station.

Nicely done crainbebo! Congratulations. Especially impressive considering that....at least here in the midwest....XEROK used to be a pretty easy catch, and now it's a tough one.

This is the year you snag WWL and Tincap logs CBW!

And this will be the year (hopefully) that I'll snag CFZM and HLAZ 1566 from South Korea (heard a good carrier there a couple days ago, music but couldn't identify the language), and who knows? More CA graveyarders?

CFZM is the only 50kw ND regular around my part of the midwest that frequently has multiple stations audible underneath. By "frequently", I mean that CFZM is usually all alone with a really good signal, but when it fades, usually you can hear more than one station coming through. (One of which is usually KRMG.)

On the one hand, this might mean more "obstructions" along the skywave path to the Seattle area. But, OTOH, my experience is CFZM skywave tends to do better to the northwest than it does to the southwest (Chicago is almost due west...only slightly to the south). They also get out really well day and night. I've driven by the stick many times (and probably will again next month). It's in an open area west of Toronto with no buildings or other apparent barriers nearby to screw up the effectiveness of the physical plant. I'm pretty sure the CBC still owns the tower, since they were using it for 740 before migrating that to FM, and since CJBC (Radio Canada...the French service) is remains diplexed there on 860.
