New AM on the air in Ottawa

As pf this afterno0n, CJEU 1670 hit the air with 1000 watts non directional 24 hours a day. It's running a taped lo0p as it tests it's signal. There is some sound issues that need to be worked out, like feedback, over modulation from time to time. It could be in the recording itself. The format will be children's music in french produced and aired by the kids themselves. Cute idea actually. They do their own programming, make decisions about what goes on the air, everything. It's open to all french speaking scho0ls around the region and beyond. They were operating as a low powered FM for years and ran a very eclectic music format.

That's odd. How did they get those calls? Jeu is french for game.
??? I thought there was a french sports radio using those calls somewhere in Canada. ("Le Jeu" would translate to sports radio "The game")
Oh well...

As of the 5th there was no CJEU in the I-C database. (not even on 1670 Gatineau, so those calls have been issued fairly recently) (the I-C database seems to be a bit slow about getting call changes)

I'd imagine it's slow updating. They've had the calls for over a year now. I don't remember when exactly they got them.

Jeu is also the first letters in jeune which would be young in French and as the sdtaion is for kids the call fits well

I'm just barely picking up their daytime signal, down here about 80 km south of Ottawa. I'll try them this evening.

The signal doesn't seem as go0d as it was the first day of testing, my strength meter on my radio has shown it has dropped one bar. The sound issues were fixed yesterday, and they're giving an announcement they are testing. A mailing list I subscribe to shows it has a strong signal in Toronto at night and has been heard in in Illinois. Once they start their regular programming it will be an interesting listen. For now it's a lot of Christmas music that seems to have been done by various scho0ls in the area.

The transmitter is in a field near highway 148 in Gatineau.

I was listening to it this evening, in my car. There certainly was fading, with WTDY (Madison WI) busting in and over powering it at times.

I actually like the music they've got going. It reminds me of alot of the programming I've heard in Europe around this time of the year.... :D
