New AM station is on the air

There is a brand new AM station on air in Las Vegas...AM 790 KBET. Right now they are playing relaxing new age type music with the sounds of ocean waves and birds chirping. Does anybody here have information on this station?

The station's transmitter is close to Nellis AFB and transmitting 1000 watts/day and 300 watts/night with a horrible nighttime pattern. Our engineer believes that they are still in the testing phase. Once all that is done, it will be sold to the highest bidder.

The history: An old-time radio guy bought the CP for 790 and started construction...but ran out of money. So he sold it to a broker that is finishing the job, then dumping it. With that...I'm sure that the initial format will be temporary.

How much could this thing fetch? 1230 and 970 only went for $3.2 and $3.75m respectively, each with marginally better signals, history, and the billing from plenty of brokered time.

The station seems to have identical day and night patterns. I heard the night signal last night at it was pretty bad. And the day signal isnt much better. Is this thing at full power and does it even have a city grade signal? KLAV is at 1000 watts and comes in decently, and KDOX at nights comes in better at 48 watts than this station at 300.

Hearing KBET, Winchester (790am) with Christmas music and an ID at 4:17 today. Apparently testing as the FCC has them still listed as a CP in the AM query. Sound for a kw is good at Nellis and Charleston, thought it appears we're fairly close and in the main lobe of their signal if I'm reading the maps correctly.

I am not in LV right now....does anyone know what the reception on KBET is like in SW LV?

Well today it sounds like KBET is a a full kW and the signals fine in Spring Valley. It sounds like they are playing the new age music again, commercial free with an ID here and there.

Here is an interesting bit of information......Beasley has an option to buy this station. Actually, they purchased the option about two years ago. It's a matter of public record. Look it up.
