New AM's in Shreveport?

Was looking at the Recnec.com board and noticed three new CPAAP licence applications for new AM's in the Shreveport/Bossier market.

1) 1020 from Eastwood LA, 1K day, 88 watts nights using 6(!) towers
http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?facid=161163

2) 1380 from Bossier City, 710 watts day/night, again with 6 towers!
http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?facid=160383

3) 1550 from Red Chute LA, (east of Bossier) - 13K days directional, 500 nights, two towers (btw this is the old KOKA-KVKI-AM frequency thats been dark since the early 90's)
http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?facid=161237

4) 1550, this time from Blanchard LA - 2.5 days on 3 towers, 1K nights on 4

Anyone know of the status on these stations? Most of them are applied by Religious groups..

If you call new 2004 They would be new...These are applications from the first part of 2004 which looks by the few I did research to be in the normal FCC limbo... Most applications to CPs are 2-3 years.

Big thing was on the 1020 frequency... 2 stations in Shreveport want that frequency. Word of Life proposing 5kw from Blanchard area, and Rams II with the 1kw and 880 watts at night

Another station in Sterlington (Monroe) has proposed a 50kw Daytime/critical and 900watts nighttime for that area on that frequency and has apparently filed a comment against the Rams II station (Both Shreveport stations have gone to Public comment section in October)

Dismissed by FCC per applicant's request dated Monday Jan 23,2006 for 2005 application.. 2004 application was cancelled also but unknown why...

Still apparently never acted upon

The original Cp has something about a settlement and was amended with a new Cp dated October 31st... Don't know any more

This frequency has the same players as the 1020 frequncy... Word Of life and Rams II

The lord is a profitable business and apparently some locals want to cash in on this.

I have heard the 1550 freqency has been applied for several times since the demise of KVKI-AM but nobody has come up with the right combo of location/power/antenna sytem to please the FCC, or had the cash to put it on the air.

Curious, what became of the old 1550 in Shreveport. That station would sometimes overide WOKJ in Jackson, MS which was 10,000 watts directional at night. For a short time WOKJ was a poorly run metal station playing mostly hair metal around 1989 or 1990. It had been one of the first black stations in Mississippi but was sold so the owners could buy out a 1000 watt black gospel station. WOKJ evenually went dark and the owners lost the license for not having the towers lit. The Shreveport station used to annoy the crap out of me while trying to listen to my hair bands.

I have a playlist scan from 1968 that was sold on E-bay. 1550 used to be known as KOKA (those calls are now at 980). I heard for many years it was a very popular R&B station.

When I moved to East Texas (Kilgore) in 1998 1550 was then simulcasting KVKI-FM's AC format. Later it tried satellite oldies, local contemporary christian and I think ESPN sports before it went dark around 1992-3. 1550 seemed to have a highly directional pattern even with 10K and had a tough time covering Shreveport during the day. At night it ran a puny 500 watts.

Why the owners didnt try to sell 1550 to someone else is a mystery. It may have been a real estate situation where the property for the towers was worth more than the station itself.

I also remember WOKJ, they had a very powerful night signal. It was one of the few Urban stations I could pick up in Oklahoma in the 70's and 80's. They had some pretty wild DJ's. Like so many other AM stations WOKJ fell on hard times in the 80's and the Hair Metal format was a last gasp format. Too bad they had stupid negligent owners that couldnt take care of the facillity and went dark for good.

I went to an uncle's wedding in Tulsa, OK back in the 80's and noticed that WOKJ was wall to wall in my hotel room. Sounded just like a local. Funny thing about that directional signal was that when I was in college in Raymond, MS which was near the WOKJ tower site, you had trouble picking it up at night, even though you could actually see the towers if you were on a hill around town. It actually picked up better in Tulsa than it did in some of the local area.
