New Antenna

I had been whining about the window antenna in my car for so long that I had forgotten how really god-awfull (sp?) it was.
Today I broke down and finally got a real antenna like from the old days and it feels like a brand new experience.
FM stations that used to fade into oblivion now fade into co-channel stations, hiss is replaced with the HD lamp flickering, noisy stations are full quieting, and municipality stations fill the expanded part of the AM band.
I visited a public radio station with a rimshot signal today and contributed.
I had rarely listened to the station since getting this car.
:D Whoopie ;D

Those window "wire" antennas are useless - truly useless. Not only do they have limited sensitivity, they are usually very directional as well. Good job in finally getting a whip antenna. I once had a Pontiac where, after a couple of years, I had a whip antenna installed. It was the best $75 (installed) that I ever spent!

I bought one for my wife's vehicle, but haven't installed it yet.

The windshield antenna is at the rear of the vehicle, and I doubt the feedline length has been
peaked for AM response. It's OK for FM, might as well not exist for the AM.

I had a similar moment when I bypassed the factory "amplified" antenna on my 2007 Honda Fit, drilled a hole dead center in the roof & put a Motorola NMO mount 1/4 wave FM whip there. It's essentially non-directional on FM and AM & the AM is quiet as can be...Probably did reduce the trade in value, but my last Honda had 420,000 miles on it & I got $400 for it...so I don't care!

Many years ago I almost bought a car with a diesel engine. Had I done that, would have been bitching about AM noise from spark plugs ever since ;)
