i hope to replace an old analog stl with the Barix 1000.Very short 1500 ft to tower, great line of sight, motorola canopy ethernet radio's (11mbps),dedicated path, doing PCM.Should work fine.concerns are latency and whether the units ccan handle 24/7 operation. But i sure see this product as a fill in for the much more expensive comrex and tieline units.

If the jocks are going to monitor off-air I'd say it would be a problem. Otherwise the delay could be set pretty low where it's near real-time. I haven't messed with the 1000 stuff yet, but if it's anything like the cheaper verisons I'd have to say you're going to probably have NO problems out of it for 24/7 operation. Clear Channel and others have been using them for STLs for several years with great luck.

Running PCM, you should have practically no delay. Another benefit of running PCM is you will have a two way path. The 1000 units also have AES/EBU inputs and outputs built in.

The best bang for the buck in wireless I've found is Tranzeo (www.tranzeo.com). They have both 2.4 and 5 gHz radios at very attractive prices.

We have dozens (Hundreds?) of stations running Instreamers and Exstreamers for both main and back up STLs every day. Most do so over the Internet (though ideally you should use the same ISP or CLEC on both sides of the link to keep your packets off the public Internet).

tower owner has commercial wireless broadband on it now using the canopy system.5ghz.quoted one grand for the ethernet radios including labor and install.not real sure about the 2.4 ghz systems in regards to interference.may check with tranzeo and see what they can do with a 5ghz pair.thanks for the info

much better price quote.170.00 each end for the Ubiquiti Power Station 5..does anyone have any experience with these units?model no.is PS5-22V.
