New belo morning show in Texas

Give it time, it'll either go one of two ways:

A) Become like "San Antonio Living" on WOAI (which is decent)
B) Become like Good Morning Texas at WFAA (which is crap)

Let's be clear, Great Day Houston is an infomercial. People pay to get segments on the show. Belo is transitioning Good Morning Texas to the same format soon. Once they do, you won't see any Channel 8 news people on the program. That's why they've hired the talentless Brenda Teele to host it.

It's sad and disgraceful that Belo is whoring out their formerly fine broadcast properties for crap like this.

Nobody has mentioned that there is already a "Great Day SA!" on KENS 5 in San Antonio. It sounds like Belo is copying the format over in Houston.

True, but it seems in the SA market, products like this are better produced. I have to also agree on Brenda Teele, shes as talented as a wall hanging, pretty to look at but not much else going on when ya look deeper.

But, then again, this is exactly where someone like Brenda Teele-Jackson should thrive. It's all scripted, all fluff. Look at the host in SA (mysa.com). She is hot, but that's about it.

I now live in Phoenix, which has a plethora of these shows. Many of the hosts are older (relative term, here in Phoenix, with all the retirees) and NOT pleasant to look at.

I'm wondering if this is a trend. WXIA's "Atlanta & Company"
is also little more than an infomercial, as is "Hey Leslie, What's
Happening?" on WSFA/12 Montgomery, AL.

It's a trend. WFLA-8-Tampa has "Daytime," WCAU-10-Philly has "10!" and I'm sure if I did enough digging, I could find other stations with similar programming. Just another profit center for the stations. Low cost to produce, spots/interviews supported by advertisers along with regular commercial breaks. What's not to love...exxxxxxcept the show itself?

I guess as long as its identified as a being seperate from the news department at the station, its all good. Only difference between it and the morning shows of the past is the in-show spots are advertiser supported.

This trend has been developing for the last 4 years when TV stations began showing dramatic diminishing returns. Local stations are finding it increasingly harder to increase rates with the number of credible options now available to advertisers. As an advertiser and former TV sales manager for years, I am keenly aware of this problem. That's why so many of the best TV executives on the local level have left the business over the past several years. The hot trend now is product placement and this show that Belo is putting on in Houston is product placement on steroids. You not only pay to place the product in the body of the show, but they will, as is mentioned in this thread, basically put on an informercial. Belo and all the other broadcasters that go to this card will continue to do so as long as the revenue is there. Eventually it will play out to where the ratings on such programs are so low that the smart advertisers will realize that the increasingly expanding options out there are more viable. Good Day Houston is nothing more than a long form infomercial and the poor content quality you will see there will stay there as long it makes a meaningful contribution to the bottom line revenue stream. I have my doubts. My rep over there is constantly sending out emails to his clients looking for business in that show. If most advertisers and agencies like me keep taking the wait and see attitude, the show might not have long legs. I would not put any of my clients in there until I can determine exactly how many viewers they have. Even at that it would have to be priced right to make it as attractive as other options.

Hi everyone:

The same could be said about "Colorado & Co." on KUSA 9 here in Denver, though they don't "(BLEEP)" out female talent. The female host is a local radio personality while the male host is one of their reporters (I forget whether it's news or sports though).

Cheers :)
