Great move for Citadel. Now this reminds me of how radio used to be.
Take the former PD from the competition and hire him.

Things are about to get a little interesting in the Classic Rock
war here in Oklahoma City.

I will say this that myself and others we're shocked when they let him go
at Renda. Jeff's a good PD and he will benefit Citadel greatly.

When Jeff took over 107.7, it was still an also ran to the Katt. Jeff
made that station a powerhouse and because of bad management at the top, not at the GM level, things were stuffed down their throats and the station tanked.

When that happened, it was time to lop off heads as far as Pittsburg was concerned and JC was the sacrifice.

How stupid can management be?

Sack the PD that got you where you are, let our morning team walk, and cover it with a really poor syndicated talk show.

I can't imagine a more idiotic series of decisions.

KRXO gets what it deserves.

I just hope Citadel lets Jeff do with the station what needs to be done...more real live DJ's and good promotion.

I couldn't agree with you more. Now if Citadel lets Jeff do his job, he's going to take OKC radio by the horns, and KRXO won't have a prayer. Too bad people that don't understand a station own it and proceed to ruin it out of sheer ignorance. You know.. If I paid good money to buy something that was working, I think I'd try to keep from breaking it. Getting pissed off and ripping the engine out of a Corvette and replacing it with a lawn mower engine just because it wouldn't start one morning is about like what Renda did with KRXO.

And Renda paid how much for KRXO and KOMA several years ago?

It is interesting, with the exception of that idiotic Bob and Tom morning show and overnights, both stations in this war are live and local. It's only a battle of music and talent, and in KQOB's case, a bit of a signal challenge. <P ID="signature">______________

Good move for Citadel. Talk about someone walking into a GOOD situation with ratings soaring up in the latest trend. Most of the time you hire a PD when the station is sucking..From what I see the wheel is far from being broke. Good Luck Jeff!

Looks like all of these people turned out to be WRONG about the decision

to get rid of Jeff Couch and bring on Bob and Tom!

KRXO is soaring and BOB is losing! (and firing jocks, ouch!)

I guess sometimes those "stupid corporate decision-makers" do get it right. ;D

At least in the case of KRXO.

Word to the wise: Be careful what you prognosticate!
 
Keep in mind also that Jeff hasn't had the keys to the car over there until very recently. He's pretty much had to do what most programmers do these days do and follow what the big guys tell him to do. The loss of the L and R morning show and the whole Lisa blow-up, the Xmas music, and the switching back and forth between softer and harder music has ran off a ton of people that will be hard to get back. NONE of these problems were created by Jeff. So yes, your'e right in the fact things haven't turned out as predicted. However, the casual observer wouldn't know enough details to understand WHY it has happened.

The reason why Boob and Tommy have listeners is because they don't have a real competitor for their slot in OKC, especially in-format. In this day and age of corporate radio no one seems to want to step foward with good talent that costs bucks and will step out to be really entertaining. I think of today's morning radio in OKC like a tortoise race. NO morning show in OKC is really funny, compelling, or great, they just get though to ratings gate slighly ahead of the next guy.

Is it any wonder emerging technolgies is and will be kicking our asses up and down our antique-media dialscape?

I truly enjoy the BOB morning show....but they could be the greatest morning show in the world and it wouldn't matter. I truly think the problem with The BOB is in the music. They say that they are classic rock yet they play Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" and then follow it up with Def Leppard. That is just a strange programming philosophy. I'm not sure that fans of "Just The Way You Are" would like "Pour some Sugar on Me" or vice versa. In fact I'm not sure that Billy Joel likes "Just The Way You Are". Plus when you add the strange choice to go all Xmas (which they are still recovering from even though it happend over a year ago) it all adds up to a really big mess that someone over at citadel needs to clean up. I hope that Mr. Couch can do it because I have heard that he is a great guy.

Great for Jeff Couch. I haven't met a better programmer or a nicer guy than Jeff in 20 years. When he was at Star 103.3 in Tulsa, he had that place hummin'! He's a great radio man in a bad radio era. My heart pours out to Jeff. What a helluva guy. Congrats to you Jeff. Hope the wife and kids are doing wonderful.

It's truely sad how the industry basically wastes the talent of so many talented people that CAN and WOULD give 110 percent if they could be allowed to win. The beancounters are their own worst enemy. There's a reason terrestrial radio keeps loosing about 5 percent in $$$ every year. Producing cheap and uncompelling radio creates listenership errosion and eventually less of a value to advertisers.
