New Brunswick Translator 104.7

Hey, why not play that song from Groove Coverage where they say a certain someone is a girl, they will surely be fond of that track ;)

does anyone know what happening with 89.3, it sound slike shit and so does 100.7.

100.7 always had a hiss..somebody needs to fix that.

any updates on 104.7? i heard they are looking for a station to translate

How very kind of "njradio1009" to make his FIRST POST in sheer concern for WDDM and it's coverage. They should send you a T-Shirt... On second though maybe not, you swore!

From what I heard, the station is running on a backup transmitter which isn't as strong as their previous one. It's apparently better than nothing. The only other alternative was to go dark... Lucky for them the signal is just strong enough to feed the 100.7 translator on Rt 27 in Edison which would explain the extraneous noise on that freq. Doesn't help really that they are shoe-horned in between WLEV and WHUD which really batter the 100.7 relay of WDDM. Ideally if it can in any way work in their favor, they would be much better off on 104.7 as the frequency is much cleaner and only adjacent to a Philly FM in stead of being stuck between WSOU and 89.1 both of which are VERY strong in the WDDM Listening Area. Looks like the 104.7 App to relocate from 89.3 is for 5 watts at a much HIGHER height which I would imagine would cover a greater chunk of land...

So if 89.3 will soon change formats from Indian to FM Pregnancy (wtf????), 100.7 and the proposed 104.7 can't originate their own Indian programming because they are licensed as translators. However, they could try to get their Indian format on HD and then translate that. Or they could translate 1170 AM.

I wonder what the FM Pregnancy station will sound like.

I had jokingly suggested that 104.7 translate WNYZ because it would be a dream come true for me, as I live in New Brunswick most of the year, and Pulse 87 isn't as strong as the other NYC stations. Why must people be so immature about dance music? 1260 will never become a "danz stayshun", in fact I think it more likely will flip back to oldies.

Now I don't know if that comment on 1260 becoming a "danz stayshun" was serious or just a spitting image of the Philly board, but even "if" 1260 does flip to dance, who is going to tune in? The sound quality will be like listening to Party 105's 32K stream on RadioTime, their signal is similar to Pulse 87's figure 8 pattern, and who is even going to try and run the format? Just be happy there's something on 92.9 in Trenton for the time being.

From what I understand and read, WDDM currently on 89.3 would co-operate on the current frequency with the "Pregnancy Peeps" signing on the same freq but licensed to Marlboro. As a result this would kill most of WDDM's signal west of their tower at the Arts Center where this new station would be located. There is an CP for the current Translator in Franklin Twp on 104.7 for 10 watts and an APP for WDDM to MOVE to 104.7 at an INCREASED Height putting out 5 watts. If this is indeed a possibility with the possible grant for the 89.3 in Marlboro, it would make sense for WDDM to relocate to 104.7 and solely occupy the frequency. Here is the link to the FCC Database:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=70644

FWIW, the people who run 1170AM are NOT affiliated with WDDM. That is run by EBC Boradcasting and WDDM is an independent station operated as a Non-Comm.

attention all ladies of the Lord... get ready to sit on your radios and pray to the new rhythm of Preggo FM 89.3 :)

"tonight is the Saturday Night Pregnancy Party with a live broadcast from the Planned Parenthood center, be caller #7 to win, only on 89.3 FM Pregnancy"

I would actually listen if 89.3's new format were as sophomoric as we are making it seem. It would be a good stunt.

Does anybody remember the pirate out of Edison at 104.7 a few years ago (late 90's-early 2000's)? It was called "WENJ", and sometimes they played old WERA airchecks. Other times, they were on live with guys like Brian Dee and Kevin Levine, if memory serves. They had a good signal in New Brunswick.

104.7 was a home made transmitter I built for Brian as a science project in school with 35 watts, but he abused it and was caught by the FCC because he had a broadcast pattern. Everyday after school he would go on the air. If you want to pirate don't have a pattern. Go on the air at different times and don't stay on all the time. WENJ was originally on 1620 AM and came on the air in 1968. I built the all tube 100 watt transmitter when I was 17. We received DX reports from as far away as Canada. I was Bobby Dee, Brian was not born yet and Jack Beane was my friend. Today we are legal with the first LPAM station in NJ on 1710. We don't have the coverage we had as a pirate but at least we can go on the air when we want too and not worry. Both transmitters are still in good operable shape and work. Bulding these transmitters was what lead me to be the Chief for WERE, WMCA ,WBBR and owning my own 1 KW in VA. WODI. Today I'm the Chief for North Jerseys Clear Channel stations. Yes Im the contract engineer for WDDM, but that's a whole different story. And I know about the hiss on 100.7, that's because the signal is too weak from Homdel because the transmitter that was is now the exciter for the new WIBG in AC on 94.3. WDDM will be getting a new transmitter in a few weeks. Neal if you read this you can pick up the rest of the story, if you want :) By the way WENJ 104.7 only received a warning from the FCC.
Today Brian works for Sirius satellite radio with Cousin Brucie as his engineer an co host on the 60's channel and program's the 70's channel and Sinatra channel with Nancy Sinatra. Pirating can teach you more then you learn in broadcasting school or college but you got to set your guide lines to not get in trouble with the FCC and learn not to stay on all the time.

Visit our websites for pictures and airchecks www.tonydeeradio.com

I'll put some pictures up of the 1620 transmitter and 104.7 with time. Enjoy.

Or just live in a rural area, like Millstone and run it like real station ;).

And yeah, running a unlicensed station is a GREAT way to learn about the engineering side of things. Best money I ever spent....

Now I have a LICENSED toy to play with in WRRC - I just added reverb to the airchain on Friday.

>>A poster said "on the cell tower opposite the WMGQ tower behind the bus station." Isn't MGQ's tower at the studio site on Veronica Avenue in Somerest? >>

There's two towers relatively close to each other. When you cross the Driscoll bridge southbound you can see them in the distance almost
looking like "twin towers". That's the tower they mean...the one that isn't WMGQ...

Speaking of pirates being on 104.7, I could say that the caribbean pirate in Newark is still on and outlasted WZVU, or even WENJ 104.7 for that matter. One thing is true and this is why I didn't get caught with 96.7. I was on different days and would mess around with late hours (11-5A) There was a few days I'd strike evenings. But where's the FCC for the Newark stations? They are on for YEARS.

Not that I can't say that I see WHERE they are coming from, but would you want to raid those areas and risk your life? Chances are NO and therefore those illegal operations basically have carte-blanche to do what the *F* they want. It's much easier to come after the "little guy" in the "less ethnic suburbs." You no doubt evaded problems on 96.7 in the (affluent) Ocean Twp area by your erratic schedule. The size of the ballz on these people airing contact numbers and advertisers is mind-boggling. You would think based on those items alone it would be so easy to shu them down. Maybe they don't want to make the trip from Langhorne... The Government is feeling the "economic pinch" too you know LOL!!! ;)

There are pirates in all the "ghettos" in this state. Newark, Paterson, Elizabeth, Trenton, Atlantic City, Irvington, the Oranges. The FCC doesn't want to lose their already small enforcement staff, and the cops have bigger crimes to worry about.
