Fellow Western New York resident Scott Fybush pretty well explained it, but just as a follow up, WBEN is positioning itself as "WBEN on FM at 107 point 7." Some of us on the Buffalo-Niagara Falls-Rochester board posed the same question regarding the WBEN-FM call letters, which many years ago were assigned to Entercom's 102.5 (now Hot AC WTSS as Star 102.5.) It's possible that Entercom could strike a deal with Greater Media to get the WBEN-FM call letters back to Buffalo, but not likely. In all likelihood, Greater Media probably had to strike a deal with Entercom to get the WBEN-FM call letters in Philly.
The WLKK call letters are pretty much buried in the WBEN Buffalo - WLKK Wethersfield TOH legal ID. The 107.7 allocation is a short-spaced rim shot with 19.5 kW, which is a weak signal from 35 miles southeast of Buffalo. It's very likely that most of the listening will remain on WBEN, the market's sole commercial AM News-Talker having a solid non-directional 5 kW daytime signal and a very mild directional 5 kW nighttime signal on 930.
