New call sign requests?

No, not really. There is a query screen where you can check to see if a particular call sign is in use, but there is nowhere I know of to see a list of recent call sign requests. The query link will show where a particular call sign is going to when a station changes calls. A number of groups may kill of a heritage station for a new format, but stash the heritage call on some small station in the chain. Example that come to mind is "WCKY," which CC moved from 1530 Cincinnati to an FM licensed to Tiffin, Ohio (near Toledo).

Periodically, the Commission releases a list of call sign changes, (published in the daily digest); but by that time the station usually has changed its call. This list does include those call signs being held for the buyers of stations pending completion of that sale, (which might be a clue to format changes if you see light-rock "KLTE" change to "KHVY" ::) ).
