New calls for 94.1

Hello all,
100000watts.com is reporting that 94.1 WWHA has changed it's call sign to WKOO.
We know 94.3 is going talk.
I smell oldies for 94.1 :) 8)

Good choice of format as long as it's truly oldies and not this crap 107.9 plays. We'll see. With the WKOO calls, they have a lot of potential down at the coast.

"Ain't it Kool.... 98... POINT 7"
I miss that station!

Most definitely. It won't give them the booming signal 98.7 had, but it will give them coverage where they need it. I used to hear 98.7 all over the place at the beach.

Hey Woot,
I love my oldies and I have my definition of a true oldies station.I was wondering what your thoughts are on a true oldies station??I don't think what 107.9 plays is crap,
the station just simply needs a bigger playlist in my opinion. If 94.1 goes oldies it will do no good if it plays the same stuff 107.9 does.107.9 has great talent like
Doug Moreland,Jeff Diamond,John Cannon & Max and Donna not to mention John Moore's Sock Hop and Steve Hardy,Luke Vail & Jerry Wayne(the weekend shows add variety, get monster ratings, and make lots of money) plus its gives 107.9 that live, local feel on the weekend which is missing on other stations. That's is the main reason 107.9 does well.People,Good People.....

You all are good people... the station has the dream lineup for a retro station, but 107.9 isn't really doing that. It's sitting on the fence between a classic hits and an oldies station and IMO the result sounds like a trainwreck. "Sweet Home Alabama" isn't oldies, and neither is ANY solo Michael Jackson song. I wish the station would either go to something like Jammin' 99.9 in Wilmington, sister station 96.5 The Drive in Fayetteville (but I know it won't because of WSFL), or a traditional Oldies station (like it was when it was Oldies 107.9).

I'm not knocking on the people, I'm knocking on the music.

True oldies doesn't exist many places anymore. Columbia, SC has one in Oldies 103 WOMG but that's one of the last ones I know of in the region. Y102.9 is classic hits, but classic hits done the right way.

Didn't John Moore play 50s and early 60s music on the Sock Hop once upon a time? There isn't much of that on there anymore.

Yeah John plays lots of 50's and 60's on the sockhop. He has a loyal audience.I see where you're coming from with the music. My arguement has always been more variety.I say you can go 50's-80's and keep or build an audience if its done correctly.107.9 continues to do well in the ratings because of a great staff
and also they are the only oldies game in town. They sky really is the limit for 107.9.It could easily overtake v-103 or WSfl for #3 in the market.I'm working with some good folks and the staff is stable. Its very rare for a jock to stay with one station 10,12 or 15 years or more but 107.9 has several employees that have been there that long.I applaud Inner Banks for what they are going to do with 94.1.I think good old fashioned competition is great. Will 94.1 dare to be different, take some chances and be a great station??? I hope so...If past history is any indication... well.... let's just say if I'm 107.9 I take a wait and see approach. The big problem with 94.1 will be no signal in Greenville and again is Innner Banks willing to go all the way and be a great live, local 5,000 song playlist
station with big promotions, fresh ideas and a staff full of folks who eat, sleep and breathe the format. That goes for programming and sales. If the answer is yes
it will be a great station,if the answer is no is will fade into the sunset in a hurry.
You be able to tell within a week of 94.1 coming on the air if they are going to be a player or just another in a long line of ho hum radio stations. They need knowledgeable radio people who can get it done and not a consultant with the same old burned out ideas.Henry and Don have ANOTHER opportunity to really
do something KOOL. Will they take advantage of it?????? We shall see. I truly wish 94.1 well....

Allen,

I'll settle for a 2,000 song playlist. Then you can grow it from there. By the way, The Christmas songs you're playing sound REAL familiar. Looks like maybe 100! WOW!

Thanks Coz,
I had fun and the phones rang off the hook.It was cool inspite of everything and
that just proves the radio listener still wants to interact with a jock.I took 101 phone calls from 9-3 & that ain't too bad.I aired about 30 of those calls.I even had a couple of jocks from other stations call up.That was very cool. For me its about the listener and the music. If you do those well, everything else will fall into place.

94.1 will probably be a clone of 102.9 in Raleigh and the 102.3 signal in Goldsboro
The playlists will probably be identical with Rusty Walker consulting.102.9 is a good station and if you are in Greenville you can get 102.3.

Allen

AV,

I agree. I felt like we were back in the 80's, where the listener mattered. If 94.1 is truely a clone of Y102.9, then Henry will have great success. I believe Y102.9 is the Best station in RDU. Merry Christmas, Dude!

Merry Christmas Coz!!!!!!!! I agree Y102-9 is good but there is too much copycat
stuff going on radio.Yes borrow ideas but to out and out clone another stations
playlist....it would not shock me if Cool 94.1 used Chris Roth and Bill Campbell
voicetracked. Those guys are good but what happened to having you're own ideas and refusing to copy another station?? That is what is missing in radio
today for the most part, being willing to be different and take chances and be a leader not a follower. In other words have some testicles and show the radio world what great radio can be again.I hope you and your family have your best Christmas ever.Call me tommorrow I've got a great story for you from Wednesday night....Merry Christmas!!!!!
