Clear Channel's Shine 96.7/Mauldin-Greenville has changed its calls from WBZT-FM to WROO. WROO was just recently used on 107.3 in South Bristol, New York.

\Re: New calls for 96.7

It also makes me wonder if there is going to be a format change soon with new call letters.

That is really odd. I wonder if they are parking them because from what I can find the station in NY just dropped those calls on the 9th.

They really need to change formats here. The station sounds nice but the ratings are terrible. I can't believe CC doesn't have something else put on there. It's had more than enough time to show its potential, and it doesn't appear to have much. The concept is a good one but it's too niche I think.

I'm guessing that Clear Channel is just parking the calls. WROO was formerly used by Clear Channel in Jacksonville, Florida on their "Rooster Country" station. Then the calls took a trip to South Bristol/Rochester, New York for Clear Channel's country station in that market.

Lets don't forget that 96.7 is an official affiliate of the Gamecock Radio Network. No coincidence that they "parked" the WROO call on there. Now they are an official ROOster station! Since they are currently simulcasting 96.7 on 1440, they may as well change its call to WROO too.

Ha! Good thinking. They probably don't care about the calls on 1440 since Shine is apparently airing there due to lack of other programming.

I really wonder how much longer Shine will last. Apparently a 1.8 wasn't good enough for The Buzzard but a 0.0 is satisfactory for a niche format with apparently no potential? It's just interesting that it has stayed around, and doesn't appear to be going anywhere. I know it's just a Class A but the signal, actually isn't bad. It's good all over the Greenville area and suburbs and to the south. Not sure about to the east, which is the downfall for it, at least on paper.

It has nothing to do with the Gamecocks. They are parking the call letters. Look for them to move the calls to a Rooster country station sometime later.

CC is still identifying 96.7 as "WBZT-FM Mauldin/WGVL Greenville." Memo to CC/Greenville: wouldn't hurt to update your legal ID. The station's calls are WROO now and have been for a couple of weeks.

If you are able, record them identifying themselves incorrectly on the Legal ID and send it off to the FCC. CC would do the same for you or any other competitor.

Might just do that. That's the first thing you do when you change your callsign and there's no excuse. Where is the PD (also WMYI PD/mornings) or management? Nobody has listened to the legal ID once since 9/16? CC/Greenville is pathetic.

Issue has been corrected. Since I doubt the FCC would have gotten around to it, guess somebody from CC/G read something here, or by some chance noticed it.

Depends. :D I'm just glad they changed it, sort of odd that you would change the call sign for a station and go 2 weeks without changing the legal ID.

I'm showing my age (and how long its been since I've been in the market), but 96.7 was once the frequency for WSCZ-FM (earlier WCRS-FM) out of Greenwood.. I know a lot of shuffling has happened since then (the early to mid 1980s)
