New calls perhaps for Channel 20

Scott Fybush at his Facebook page has said WTXX-TV has filed for a new set of calls.

The proposal is...

WCCT-TV

Perhaps having to do with their UGLY CT logo

By the way 20's Wikipedia page has the call letter change assuming it already happened.

For 20 this is the third set of calls going back to the days of WATR-TV (secondary NBC to WHNB/WNBC/WKNB/WVIT) after going from 53 to 20 in 1962. Then twenty years later (ironic somehow) The Thomas family which also ran WATR 1320 (and still does) sold the station in 1982 to Oddessy (Renaissance) changing the calls to WTXX-TV giving CT its first true independent TV station. WHCT and their ahem programming doesn't count. Yes even before I got cable in 1986 WTXX was received on rabbit ears for an albeit fuzzy picture. First time i saw WTXX in the clear was on cable at my dad's Bridgeport apartment.

By the way on a station ID at 7:50 PM during an airing of "The Office" a show I do not watch, the legal ID was given. And even in mouse print as Clark Howard would say, it clearly said "WTXX-DT Waterbury Hartford New Haven."

So Wikipedia...YA JUMPED THE GUN!

To quote one of their ad campaigns there sure were some "Great Times" on Channel 20. The Big Movie; Movie 20 Rendezvous, TX and Friends, Mets baseball and cartoons.

Gonna miss WTXX-TV. Tribune you sure know how to murder the people.

As a Wikipedia editor myself at times I must say that we tend to follow the FCC query. (For example, WBHQ -> WKTC took place in 2006 - we tried to do it the day of the change (and it was left for dust, so I picked up the slack instead).)

But why change your calls?

I tell you, they killed any chances of former kids programming mascot "TX" from returning to the station - unless he comes back as an updated character named "CC" with major bling... maybe a Bugs Bunny T-shirt... (Hi, Marc! ;) )
