New CBS Los Angeles.com website

Check out the new CBS Los Angeles.com website that combines KNX, KFWB and KCBS/KCAL. It's just like the one for New York. I think it is GAWD AWFUL. And why is KFWB included? Are they not suppose to be in a trust? Can you shed any light on the matter Mr. Eduardo?

CBS has put its online assets for radio & tv stations under one management team; thus the grouping and thus the template similarity with NY (and eventually other markets). Templates for the music stations were separately implemented a while ago. KFWB has not gone in to trust; thus it's still grouped with other LA news assets.

GAWD AWFUL indeed!

One must wonder not only about the top at CBS Radio, but the entire group of CBS O&O honchos. KNX and KFWB seem to no longer matter as entities on the web. (For that matter, KCBS and KCAL almost don't exist any longer on the web, as well.) What a disaster! And the graphics look like a community college first week "Web Design 1A" assignment. Did they do this to save server space, or did some genius actually think this was worth something? (I feel for WCBS and WINS, as well, along with others.)

YECCHH!! The old one was much better. This one is just trying to copy what NBC did for their O&O TV stations

Not to mention the new graphics mandate on most of the CBS O&Os...

I don't think its so bad, I think it is a great idea. It is less confusing to the audience.
Plus, if they are going to shed KFWB soon (which they have yet to do, really), why not try getting those listeners to identify with KNX?

What is wrong with it? Speaking s a person who does websites for people it is reasonably attractive, has easy to find well defined tabs for the stuff that people want to see and is not that different from other non CBS websites in multi-media ownership markets.

In my opinion many modern websites are extremely poorly designed with all too much glitz and glitter on the opening page. Too many have some kind of pop up audio/video that starts automatically which is extremely annoying as usually I am already listening to some streaming program and those pop ups are always much louder and interrupt what I'm listening to. The other annoying thing is what a lot of newspapers are doing with ads that get grabbed by your mouse as you try to scroll and pop up a big splash ad over what you were reading.

So I give the CBS site a B+

I also like it a lot. It's easy to find stuff and it does a good job of featuring the audio and video assets of the stations and seamlessly works in AP content as well. (The landing page for "Watch and Listen" is a little heavy on the "Watch" but clicking on the "..Radio" and "Audio on Demand" tabs bring up quite a few things). I also agree that it is comforting to know that when I hit the site I won't be annoyed by something popping up or walking and talking across my screen.

In theory it makes sense. They can sell ads on a site with TONS more traffic. The problem is each station loses it's online identity. KFWB has some good weekend shows...where are they? Heck, not that I am looking, but where is Dr. Laura? It takes like 4 clicks to find anything...not good from a consumer standpoint. I hope they give each station their own space in there that is easy to find. Plus, what will they say on air? Check out our site at losangeles dot cbs local dot com slash kfwb? Long URLS are a waste of time on the air. KFWB.com....simple and to the point. It looks like they launched it WAY before it was ready. I hope they fix it soon.

O.K., maybe I spoke too soon. That's a good point on the programming. They should at least put the "Shows" link on the station pages. Even worse, once you get on the "Shows" page, a bunch of the links are dead. Not quite ready for prime time....
