New CBS TV affliate in Alexandria

Thought that might catch your attention. Actually it's a old affiliate getting a affiliation again...

KALB channel 5 will get the CBS affiliation to air on the secondary HDTV channel as of January 1,2007. They are reportedly going to keep the NBC affiliation on the analog and HD1 station but will finally bring CBS back to a Cenla transmitter in many years.

CBS was a secondary affiliation on KALB back in the 1960's.... As of late, depending upon where you were in Cenla, the CBS signal either came from KLFY Lafayette or KNOE Monroe.

Basically, the size that Cenla is, you can also add KSLA from Shreveport.. Making Cenla a place where all CBS stations can be technically caught within the region except WWL.

But yes I did forget those two, but I was more referring to Rapides and Grant Parishes where most of the advertising and such is aimed for. Most cable watchers watch KLFY whereas some of the rural areas view KNOE instead.

But thanks for the reminder about Avoyelles Parish

And from 9 WAFB, Baton Rouge.

Analog 9...it's a blowtorch. WAFB-HD barely reaches all of BR

KALB-DT is also a whopper of a signal...from south of Lafayette to El Dorado, AR

You are right about that. 15 KADN Lafayette also seems to have a strong HD signal. Yeah, 2WBRZDT and 9WAFBDT are still on low power like 10KLFY.

I don't know if it's still the case but 9WAFB and 2WBRZ were on the cable systems in Alexandria and Pineville.
People can pick up 9WAFB in Rapides Parish, it's a station that's familiar to them.

WBRZ-DT (13) is full power on VHF. It seems that digital VHF stations are difficult to receive. KPLC-DT (8) is hard to receive with an outdoor antenna in places where the analog signal is watchable on rabbit ears. Same for me now in Houston. KUHT-8 (PBS) has their HD signal on 9. I live in a place where I can see the transmitter site (15 miles at most) and the picture still drops out.

On Cox cable, only the local affliates are found in Alexandria/Pineville (that would include all the stations in Cenla plus KLFY from Lafayette for CBS)

On Suddenlink (old Cebridge) all the locals plus KLFY and KNOE from Monroe

But wonder if this means no more KLFY come Jan 1st on cable tv?

But I agree with most people..Rural america will get shafted when DTV comes mandantory (and analog is completely shut off)
