New CC Jax OM / QIK PD?

If memory serves me correctly, I believe this was Gail's second time at WQIK, first with Jacor, and most recently with Clear Channel. During the Jacor days, 'QIK was a cash cow and THE undisputed Country leader. The combination of a weak economy and Gator Country knocking at their ratings door and finally beating them in a couple of the PPM's over the past few months, probably didn't help! IMHO, being in the OM chair, and trying to keep everybody happy, that ain't an easy task!!

When MM Barbara Latham exited a few months ago, I had a feeling Gail would be on borrowed time. I’m not certain if this was Gail’s decision to exit but usually a new manager always brings in his own team so I suspect it would be that.

Being an OM, Gail was probably caught between a rock and a hard place as you say. In a business known as a revolving door, she lasted longer than many. I think she deserves a lot of credit keeping WQIK on top albeit a couple times and it was still close. Two stations against one. It's called a winning strategy. Enough said.

The only thing that’s left for me to say is best of luck to you, Gail. I caught the story in All Access. I guess I’m guilty of stereotyping. I had an image in my head as to what an OM number cruncher type looked like. LOL. Boy was I wrong! ;)

At any rate, should you chose to stay in radio, your experiences and successes too should open the right doors. Best of Luck, Gail!

Take it from numerous folks that have worked for Gail, she was not the most pleasant person to be around most of the time. She rarely, if ever, answered her phone or returned messages. She was known for some very demeaning language to her constituents as well as saying nothing to those that would give her a simple "Hi" in the hallway.

Before you attempt to paint a gleaming picture of someone you don't even know, do yourself a favor and check your facts. You weren't even close with this one.

Speaking as someone who did work with Gail for several years I find your criticism harsh and your description inaccurate. The Gail you describe and the person I worked with are two different people.

Cheap shot, Mediawatch22. Reeks of resentment and a personal grudge.

Paul,

I agree, that negative stuff doesn't contribute or really have a place here. When I worked with Gail several years ago, I found her to be upbeat, intelligent and talented.

I stand by my comments. It's not a cheap shot if it's factual.

If you "stand" by them, then why do so anonymously? Seems rather cowardly to trash someone while speaking for "others" and hiding behind a screen name.

So, what you're saying here is that you have never, ever posted a negative comment about someone while using a screen name other than your real name? HA!

Let's look at this another way: Would you post what you did IF everyone knew who YOU are? I believe I have answered that question by posting only under my name since 2005. I at one time posted using an alias, and regret it. Why not join me Mediawatch22 and raise the level of the discussion on these boards?

Gail was most pleasent to work with as the voice of the "before it's time" Rooster 107..many moons ago. Never traded any negative energy with her.

For those who might not have noticed: Kris Abrams, coming from Greater Media Charlotte, is the new OM at Clear Channel Jacksonville, and PD of WQIK. He should be in the OM chair as of today. Kris was in Jax, back in '93 and '94, as PD at WIVY when it was The Coast. What's the word on Kris?
