New Channel 3 ad re: 50 years

During part of CBS' women's college hoops tripleheader, main evented by UCONN/Tennessee, there was a promo for channel 3 celebrating 50 years of doing news. The ad combined aspects of the old school like the old Post-Newsweek Eyewitness News Logo, the classic Hilton Kaderli blooper where he falls near Mt Washington, NH and Al Terzi--WITH BLACK HAIR! This I guess is in preps for an upcoming 50th anniversary special later this year. It does look good seeing the old and new. And an early happy 50th to WTIC/WFSB Channel 3

Imagine Channel 3 dumping those heritage call letters!!
That is what happened, correct? New ownership nixed WTIC for WFSB?
At least they are still in Hartford.
Though, most people do not care, I guess :)

It's pretty neat to see these commercials. They've actually been playing them since the beginning of December, but there hasn't been much of any kind of talk during their newscasts about a 50th anniversary. I assume that will be happening soon. I remember when WTNH-8 (originally WNHC-6) celebrated their 50th in 1998. That is when they went from Action News to NewsChannel 8, with the new set, music, graphics, etc. It would be nice if WFSB did something like that, or maybe rebranded as "CBS 3" which would be neat. In any event, I always like seeing the old WFSB graphics and on-air personalities, and I especially like hearing some of the old theme music they've had throughout the years. Of course I like old school music, and I think the only station I know of around here that still uses it is ABC7 Eyewitness News in New York.

Channel 3 has been WFSB-TV since 1974. I believe that's when Post-Newsweek took the station over as "FSB" was the initials for one of their executives. As for anniversaries, I have their 40th anniversary special on tape somewhere.

I think it was part of the deal of the sale. Post Newsweek could not keep call WTIC letters.
