New Channels: The Fidelity Factor

Groovy. New channels. But how do they sound?
To me, disappointing, at least when it comes to fidelity.

Putting content aside, 21 has more highs than 26, and the processing on 30 makes me wonder where the highs are.
Similarly, the fidelity on 24 is more pleasing than on 78.
68 doesn't sound too bad, but is it stereo? Barely, if at all!
34 sounds quite good, better than the other new channels.
11 and 17 are comparable, but I think 11 sounds a bit better.
Since my favorite channels are news and oldies, there's nothing exciting for me among the new channels. But if there was, I think I'd be feeling ripped off. I still may feel that way if they make fidelity cutbacks like they did for a while last month.
I want quality, not quantity!

I want quantity cause what you just wrote made absolutly no sense to me. Give me stations that sound halfway decent and are noticeably to the COMMON EAR awful... I'm all for it. I don't care about this high this low.

I have no complaints whatsoever regarding the audio quality of the various XM stations that I listen to. There's no static. There's no fade out. The bass is fine. The treble is fine. It's better than anything I can get on FM & AM.

Then your ears must be defective, because there are more digital artifacts in the stream than in a poorly encoded MP3.

Its all there, but its just crappy....
______________

My 'XM SKYFi Audio System by Delphi' (mini-boombox) is the most expensive radio-listening device that I've ever owned in my entire life, so this is a remarkable upgrade from my previous FM & AM years.

I'm just not in to all of that sophisticated audio / fidelity technology.

Listening to the MyFi on my car stereo (cassette adapter), the artifacts are present (especially on 60's on 6 - the "sss's" really sound garbled, along with cymbal crashes).
______________

ok i am an xm cheerleader :) here is my 2 cents..yes xm doesnt sound as good as fm..BUT. if you are not in a market with a good fm you dont have anything..xm reaches where others dont..and thats what makes it great..no static , no fadeouts..no bleeding from some 50 watt lpfm...just crystal clear between am and fm audio...btw we lost no quality with the addition of the new channels..
______________
note to the NAB..satellite radio..its worth paying for!!

These days the online streams often sound much better than what's on the radio itself.
Compare for yourself. The radio should sound as good or better. No good reason why not.
For those who don't care whether it sounds good, you won't notice any improvement anyway, so it shouldn't bother you that some listeners feel they deserve better fidelity for their money.
Thank goodness we can at least get better audio online -- although there's an automatic two-hour disconnect after listening to a single channel for that length of time.

I live way down at the extreme southeastern tip of mainland Florida - 35 miles southwest of Miami. Perhaps the fact that I live closer to the Equator than all of you (unless any of you live in the Florida Keys) may be the reason why my XM satellite reception and audio quality is perfect for me.

My little black plastic satellite 'dish' is fixed and pointed straight to my ceiling / roof which is unobstructed to the heavens (and satellites) above.

... Or maybe I have defective ears ...
