New Chattanooga move in granted?

WTRZ 103.9 in Mcminnville has had the application to move into Chattanooga files since 03. According to the FCC database the move has been granted a construction permit to relocate to 103.7 in Chattanooga (licensed to Walden) but I don't see the construction permit on any other sites yet like recnet.com or radio-locator.com. I think we can safely say it isn't a rumor anymore if there is a construction permit for it though. This station will have a VERY good signal in Chattanooga. You can check it out at recnet.com or you can go to the fcc website. The only question is how long will it take them to move it and what will the format be because right now it's country. Replace the recently lost CHR format perhaps? Rhythmic maybe? Any thoughts?

It will be interesting to see what happens. Chattanooga isn't a market that I watch often, but it does seem odd that market doesn't have a CHR/Pop anymore and doesn't have a CHR/RHY. Who owns WTRZ? However knowing the challenges you face selling a CHR/RHY in some markets, the Chattanooga operaters may feel that the revenue isn't "there" in Chattanooga. CHR is an expensive format to operate unless you're gonna Clear Channel your way through it with a syndicated morning show and lots of voice tracking.

WTRZ ownership is pulling up as Citicasters. I'm not familiar with them. I would assume it's a local private company. You are right, there can be challenges with selling a CHR/Rhythmic, but all markets have CHR/Pop stations. It's strange that Chattanooga, as big as a market as it is, doesn't have one anymore, and WALV's rimshot distant signal doesn't count. I would imagine that the way the demographics are in that market, it would be easier to sell a pop than a rhythmic though. CHR/Pop is still a very popular format in the country, and if they do it better than WKXJ did, maybe they will be successful. The potential is there. I guess we're stuff doing what we've been doing all along. Waiting...

Citicasters is Clear Channel. They own McMinnville and they will own the Walden station which is why they had to spin off 97.3.

I think there are some other frequency change dominoes that must fall before 103.9 comes all the way into Chatt.

Also, bear in mind that Brewer has filed to rellocate WALV from Dayton to Lakeside, TN and bring that signal into the market.

Geez how many aliases does clear channel have lol. I see the WALV move will relocate it to 105.1. It'll have nice coverage as well if it's granted and I'm sure it will be.

In that case, it may be a good while before 103.9 moves in if it's waiting of other frequency changes to happen. UHHH more waiting!

Yes McMinnville is owned by the Mighty CC, they also have Sparta, and Cookeville, TN. Now the story that I somewhat know is... a few months ago CC dumped their Cookeville, McMinnville, and Sparta owned clusters. Some guy, yes an independent owned guy who originally had a part in Paxton which was before CC gobbled up those 3 markets in 1999, purchased all three markets, and was going to be more local with them and do away with all the cross town VT'ing that they did and still do. Which would've been great for young eager jocks to get started or seasoned jocks who are out of work and just need somewhere to fall back in. It looked promising. I've since heard the man backed out of the deal! Those three markets I suppose are back in CC's hands, they can't even dump them. I would be worried if I was working in any of those three markets right now.

McMinnville (CC run i guess) has dumped their long time Hot AC on 107.3 & 107.7 (or is it 107.9) Kiss FM. They are now simulcasting Hot Country 103.9 (the format that's supposed to move to Chatt.) on the former Kiss FM's two frequency's. So basically you have 3 frequency's broadcasting Hot Country 103.9.
McMinnville's listeners have got to feel robbed, or at least overwhelmed. The Jocks from Cookeville's WGSQ the Country Giant are VT'ing most of it. I've got a radio buddy who has always said Clear Channel has ruined this business. Sometimes I've got to agree. Only time will tell my radio comrades.

You've only got parts of the stories. The original frontman for the American Securities buyout of CC's Cookeville/Sparta/McMinnville group is no longer in the picture, so instead of associating with the GoodRadio group, they are presently courting a CEO from a different group. But the sale's still on.

Of course, it hasn't sold yet, so CC still owns it for now, and the station that's moving into Chattanooga wasn't part of the deal anyway.

Jet, I have totally forgotten about all this happening. Have you ever heard an asking price? Exactly what stations
are all included? The markets these stations are in are tough.
