NEW CHR: OMG 97.7

LMFAO were among the first played on the station.
I think the name's pretty clever - rival station is known on-air as 93-3 KOB. Now you've got 97-7 OMG, and like it or not people will remember a name like OMG Radio.

Uh...that's not what I would entitle my radio station. Maybe as a VERY short-term branding tactic, but after a few months I would put the stake in it.

Also, the music seems really unfocused. Lots of stiffs, weird scheduling sequences and golds that probably don't belong.

I concur with chrles, its a clever youth branding for perhaps an active hits format like radio now in Indianapolis and nyc, and the newest in mount airy-Greensboro-winstom Salem-Hillsville-Galax station which has a great signal for only 34kw.... I had the pleasure of listening to 105.7 hit music now while at my girlfriends house last month, but also enjoyed Kiss 95.1 charlotte from 100 miles away, which came in pretty clear even driving around, especially if we were on an elevated road, and 107.5 Kzl,, slightly adult leaned. and the surprisingly good for cumulous Hot 100.7 blacksburg... I was dissapointed not to be able to hear K-92 and jammin JJS due to co channel tropo interference... Im going off topic but these new youth branding tactics are good for a youth, active hits current heavy, slightly rhythmic leaned station.

What happens when "OMG" gets replaced with some other new term? The difference between that and something like "NOW" is that the latter doesn't sound dated in a couple of years.

Youth-branding, yes, but these same youth change their tastes VERY quickly. This is why it's tough to target them specifically. The station better be prepared when "OMG" isn't cool anymore.

BTW...their website content is at least TRYING to appeal to the audience, even if it looks like they vomited Flash bits all over. Much less about them and an attempt to be about their listeners. Kudos for that. They obviously figured out how to use Widgetbox...wow. The problem is, the site loads like glaciers move. You target a young audience and then expect them to have the patience to wait for the site to take that long to load? Not a great move.

not a major problem bro.. When omg isnt cool anymore, they can simply change their name to simply 97.7 Hot Fm or something of the sort, yet stick to the format.. I know how to keep a station the same format and change with the times,,, why most pds are in it for the money, i worked 12 to 16 hrs a day to keep a certain station ahead of curve before shown the door.. And while their adverts have went up, their tsl and ppm has dropped alot... its all about the money.... Its a bussiness as I know, but its also supposed to be a public service and help break new songs and artists......

Thanks, champ. But this has nothing to do with the format. I'm talking about building a brand. It's obvious you're unfamiliar with branding if your solution is to encourage an option that's soon to become dated, and then changing it when it's not cool anymore. That methodology is the same as the corporate tools you so despise: Pick something with immediate payoff, without thinking of the long-term.

OMG! The music mix on 97-7 OMG rawks! They're playing a lot of CHR titles from the 90s, along with a good amount of current hits. The music logs still need to be worked on a little bit, as at times they play too many Modern AC titles in a row, but for the most part I like it. They also don't repeat titles as often as some CHRs.
Albuquerque now has two great CHR/Pop stations on the dial, each with its own sound. Add in the two Rhythmic CHRs in town and you've got a lot of great stations to listen to.

105.7 can be heard all the way down to the Charlotte City Limits, and I loved the station. And wow kiss 951 can be heard all through the state of NC on I77 and even up to about mile marker 20 in VA. AMAZING SINGLE !

Yeah K 92 didn't come in til further up I77
