New Clear Channel format?

The CC sales dept. has a "one day sale" package out on the streets, which they call their "Premium Access Event". Besides listing rates/schedules for KFBK/KGBY/KSTE/KHYL, they have a package out for station "K?!?" at super-low rates. What's the latest on this format and/or launch?

That is more than likely the New station at 93.1 or 93.3 in Pollock Pines, umm selling time on it
that could mean a pending sign on !!

CC is promising the FCC that they will sign on the first CP for KJDX by the end of the month before pushing the CP ammendment which also includes the downgrade of KOSO.

It looks like they'll have 93.3 up and then it will eventally move to 93.1. I looked at a longley-rice map of the 93.3, it looks far better than the Radio-Locator or FCC coverage map.

KHJQ 93.3 from Pollack Pines is on the air as i type. B93 is still on the air at 93.1 and coming in stronger than KHJQ here in Rancho Cordova, which are the calls the station is using right now.

In STOCKTON, B93 is booming in town, No sign of KHJQ. In fact, between KOSO at 93.1 and KKBN at 93.5, nothing on 93.3 but SPLATTER!
 
Comes in clear as a bell in Sacramento. They let "What It's Like" play unedited. Lots of expletives in that song.
 
KFBK-FM 93.1?

Here's a wild guess on the new CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO STATION when it does make its move to the FM Dial. How about KFBK NEWSTALK 1530 and NOW ON 93.1 FM! Nationally, alot of radio stations are either simulcasting OR moving their successful ALL NEWS or NEWS/TALK RADIO STATIONS to the FM Dial. Examples: WTOP in WASHINGTON D.C., KCBS in SAN FRANCISCO and KIRO in SEATTLE. Any other suggestions?
 
I know Clear Channel isn't big on AAA, but it sure would be nice to have a KBCO or KPIG clone around here. News on FM makes sense tho. Especially since KFBK gets sort of iffy in the mountains, especially at night.

Dave, you are on the money. Denver is a Rock town , as is Sac...AAA would work, cheap to do, get the right folk, it would pay for itself.

They should do that, but I could see them putting KFBK on the FM...the People Meter is changing the dynamics of measurement, so that is very possible, though they should blow up that awful My92 and do it there, what a waste of a frequency.

I agree. If CLEAR CHANNEL is planning to put KFBK on the FM Dial, They should do it on 92.5 instead. In fact, 92.5 used to be the home to the call letters KFBK-FM years ago.

It would also make sense since they're getting a new stick for next to nothing and upgrading it. They could move the MyOhMy to 93.1 and then relaunch 92.5 as KFBK-FM. This would probably devalue 1530 in the long run, but will no doubt strengthen the 35-54 cell.

On the other hand, there's no rush to move KFBK to FM right now. No direct competition and the 25-54 numbers are still decent. They may make more money having a third music station in the cluster. Plus they don't have a younger male driven format in the building. Right now, they have FM stations that cater to Women and two AM's that get some decent 25-54 numbers along with many of the seniors in Sacramento.
 
Interloper, you are so right. what is the hold up for a AAA in Sacramento? It would totally work. Also news talk seems to be the only safe format now, why not put KFBK on FM. Lots of markets are leaning towards FM talk. Im at a 100k watt station back East,with a full news staff and we're one of the only stations in our cluster that hasnt got severe cuts...yet.

It would be great to see AAA in Sacramento.

I just got back from a visit to Sacramento and noticed something that makes me believe that KGBY My92.5 may not be long for this world despite the up (12+) book last month.

The holiday music played on KGBY (My92.5) skews way older than the current format. In fact, it even sounds more or less as hip to me than the old Y-92 Christmas programming. Is it the same list from last year?

How about this scenario:

A new "Hot AC" or AAA station launches at 93.1 completely free of any KGBY/KAER baggage.

KFBK begins simulcasting on 92.5.

I know there has been some speculation on KFBK's migration to FM. The AM band is getting more and more noisy these days. I hate seeing it, because it's a sign of the death of AM and I hate valuable losing FM space to News/Talk and Sports Talk roar. It would be nice to see HD Radio take off, but I don't seeing happening for a long time if at all.

FYI, I understand KFBKs numbers are still strong 25-54 right now. Also, as I've said before, KFBK is probably not in danger of any competitor launching a frontal News/Talk attack on FM unlike what may happen in LA.

Thoughts anyone...

Funny. I do agree with you about MY 92.5's future. I heard BING CROSBY singing a song in the middle of RYAN SEACREST's radio show. In fact, there was a lot of Older Christmas Music on RYAN SEACREST. I'd like to see a AAA station in SACRAMENTO too! I remember when KQPT-100.5 was AAA. I am guessing around 1992-93?
 
A Question About 92.5?

Didn't 92.5 have a stronger signal than its current 50000 Watts? I could have sworn that when it used to be CLASSICAL KFBK-FM, They were about 100000 Watts or so?

They were 115,000 watts at just under 300 feet HAAT on a tower at 21st and Q. KBMB is broadcasting on the same tower at 312 feet HAAT. Around 1984-85 or so, KAER moved to the present location in Elverta. 115,000 at 328 feet is equal to 50,000 watts at 492 HAAT. The move improved KAER's overall coverage and eliminated a ton of RF interference downtown. In fact, KPOP celebrated the fact that people downtown could pick up the signal for the first time by broadcasting the Robins, Kinney and Cowan morning show live from atop the Emerald Tower at 300 Capitol Mall.

Thanks Michael for the clarification. I never noticed the difference around STOCKTON with 92.5 in the 1970's or 1980's or even today. As for KPOP, I was never able to pick them up while they were on 93.5. It wasn't until they moved to 93.7 but by that time they were KRXQ (1985 or 86?)
