New Clear Channel hires in Greenville

carradio and awp complain about the amount of new music on this station. i think there is a certain aged person that likes some new but like some of their favorite songs too both of these posters would be good at putting the square blocks in the square holes and the round blocks in the round holes. scooter, stop complaining. if you wanted a voice in the media this long you should have chosen print.

I agree with carolinaradio, that I think the people that may like some new and some old are probably a smaller group. I think the current mix actually alienates the likely larger groups on each of the sides - Magic fits the older scale nicely. I think with Hot AC, you can still play some of the older "hits" (although some flow better than others), but if you want to appeal to younger adults (not kids -- that's B93.7's bed) you've got to still keep up with new music.

I'll eat crow too if I'm wrong, but they're mix just isn't right if you're image is that you're a "fresh" and "new" station.

+1

You have to have an understanding of the format, like I said somewhere else, to understand the issues here - I wonder if the posters that defend everything they do actually listen to the station? ::)

I heard them play "These Dreams" and "Everything I Do" earlier - both Magic songs. Playing these older, slower songs aren't keeping any listeners from switching to Magic. They probably run more listeners off than they gain. 98.9 has the audience that wants to hear mostly older stuff with recent and (some) current hits mixed in. 93.7 has the younger audience that wants to hear "all the hits." 97.7 has the audience that wants to hear just the 80s/90s stuff, and 70s songs that 102.5 used to play a lot of. This group of potentially 'certain aged people' that want to hear the mix 102.5 is playing is more than likely very small and not large enough to sustain decent enough ratings. Hearing those slow, sappy ballads, along with "Stereo Hearts", "Rock Your Body", "OMG", "Umbrella", "Partyrock Anthem", etc on the same station screams disaster. I think TheMusicMan summed it up best on the last page.

I'll definitely be back here in a year if the station is still on in a year and is pulling decent numbers. Until then, I'll continue to voice my opinions on the station - isn't that what these boards are for? You want complaining...go to some of the large market boards.

This has all been very interesting. I would like to point out that the GM of CC Greenville was the former GM of CC Greensboro, NC and just about killed all of the stations there. I would look for this market to crash and burn in record time. I mean seriously, this guy has the IQ of Mr. Peanut. All he wants to do is golf and play grab-ass with the good-ole boy network. He doesn't recognize talent and will cut the place to the bone to save money. If he grows a beard (he may already have done this), you better have a Plan B. He generally operates by having a small group of butt-kissers who will do his bidding and they are generally no-talent zombies who fear for their jobs and enjoy the power. This place is doomed!

Well, that's not good to hear. But not surprising either with the way things have been going with the CC stations here. Well, WMYI in particular.

did some research. not true. however i do like planters, but buy the store brand peanuts for less. its how we all operate.

As I, and Freqdev both enjoy a handful of store brand peanuts, I will agree with his research. Unless they have un-ovaled their Greenville office, the CC GM is Bill McMartin. Prev to how the biz is today, and the current role of a local Boadcast Im-portintate, I'll not condum any decission...for it, more than likely, ain't his own. I'd like to think that local GM's have a voice, but let's look at the dirt on the shovel:
John Crenshaw was there for many years, yet ankled, with the two other part-timers, Larson & Trusty, obviously due to payroll drain.
Munson, Landrum...and Crenshaw was the odd man out. In defense of McMartin, ordered to, and in letting Crenshaw go must've been painful. What was Crenshaw's salary? It was certainly not the six figures drawn by the preceded ankling Bill Love. Regardless to who made that decission, it was payroll drain alone! The only serious chance that the incoming Zac Morgan has is to pleaed for the full
6a-10a daypart, as slated by/and in the Arb diary. The longer he's on, the better the first spike. For his sake, hopefully, they get his music log straight. Currently, as it is all over the road, smacks of being...do I dare say it...Programmed By Committee!

Well Zac Morgan made his debut today on MY. I didn't get to listen much (as I've noted before my kids want to listen to B93.7 in the morning drive to school). But what I did hear was pretty dull and unimpressive. I think they would have been better off leaving mornings alone (to mostly music) than have a half-ass morning show. But they're just starting out, so maybe it'll get better.

I first heard it on Saturday. It lacks any strong personality to carry the show (which is common in this market)...kind of amateurish, IMO. Neither are that great. I'd rather hear music as well.

Oops! Sorry, the person i know of is not the GM, but the GSM. Probably won't have much to do with programming until he gets moved up.
