New Co-Host hired for B-101 Morning show

According to Radio and Records, All Access and FMQB, B101 (WBEB 101.1 FM) has hired Samantha Layne to join Tiffany Hill for mornings beginning in early August. Layne is currently a morning co-host on classic hits WODE 99.9 FM "The Hawk" in Allentown. The B-101 morning show to be renamed "TIFFANY AND SAM".

This will be interesting to follow. With all their resources, B would not be making this move unless they had solid evidence that two women on together would fly. It'll be interesting to see if other A/C stations follow suit. Imagine the possibilities.

I just can't see this being a good idea at all. If they get along too well it could end up being boring and trying to listen to. If their opinions differ to greatly then they could be viewed as "catty" which might not work well on an a/c station. I think the obvious question is 'how long will sam last'? I am a female and personally i'd rather listen to anything than tiffany now.

Yocco: This ALREADY is happening to AC stations. LITE FM has a two woman morning show. WLIT in Chicago used to have a one woman morning show before Whoopie came along. Now their entire day is airstaffed by women. I think the trend now is all women on the air with the exception of maybe a guy on the weekend or doing production. This is great news for women but tough for someone like myself who has 20 years on air experience (including mornings), most of it in the AC format. Unemployed, now there's nowhere for me to go. Can't relocate so now I'm searching for work outside of radio. I should have finished that degree years ago when I had the chance (and the money).

Only time will tell if the "all female" trend will be a big success. Specifically in the case of B 101, Tiffany is
"nice and pleasant" to listen to. Having had the chance to hear Samantha Layne, she will bring a bit of an
"edge" to the show...which it probably could use.

The A/C format is in flux right now. Trying to find ways to lower the average age of these stations in ways other than just the music. Let's face it.... the country is about to elect it's first female President. The View has been highly successful. It could be stated that the most powerful media personality in the country is Oprah. And years ago, the belief was women didn't want to listen to women on the radio. That was bogus then and it certainly is now as well.

Let's face it.... the country is about to elect it's first female President.

We need her in the white house as much as Mary Jo Kopechne needs a glass of water. You're kidding, right? There is no way in hell that she will be elected, and to think so is ridiculous.

Oh, I hope your right, but I'm not so sure. At least 51% of those that vote either are already dependent on the government for their existence or, because of the way they squander every dollar they earn, hope to be dependent on the government as they age. She's the leader in the "tax everybody who has something you want, so you can have it too without earning it" philosophy.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I always thought that if you want to attract guys, a good way to do it is with a hot sounding woman. And if you want to attract women, you put a good sounding guy on. When did this change? How will two women get women to listen? If you ask me, they should've put Brian Murphy on with Tiffany. That guy's got some pipes!

You're not crazy Jama, you're just a bit off the mark... "pipes" are not the measure of why women will listen to a man on the radio (or female, for that matter), it's more of what he or she has to say...the content. Is it relatable? Does he or she seem real, is it entertaining? Does he (or she) have more than one speed? Pipes are a thing that mostly just radio people listen for. Real users of AC radio do not care all that much about the voice. You can have the best voice in the world, but if you've got nothing to say, it doesn't matter. Think of the best "pipes" you've ever heard saying: "...that was Celine Dion on B101."
