New Cocola project?

Hey folks! I sure appreciate your interest in this! And it's amazing how quickly you found out about it when I havent officially launched the pledge page, much less the show itself!

Mr Dean Opp your donation page has been up for a while.. for what where is the money going? Not I see the donation part was shut down by pay pal .. this smells !
 
Fake, the Dean Opp profile is not Dean.The whole thing is a hoax, like some FB friends I had before.

Okay, but it would make more sense that Dean would be on "The Next Generation KKDJ" after all he is the ORIGINAL along with Don Fischer, Jeff Ridal and many more.

I asked Mr John Lee Walker about that he is the decision maker there he said Dean no way Don Fischer he said was interested and Jeff Rydel is a manager at a bowling alley in Sonora not interested.
 
Just a thought, as much as we'd like to have some of Fresno's best talent return to the air, it's a challenge to duplicate the original chemistry. Add to that fact that what we remember is likely the best of times, the end result is that the second or third, or fourth time around isn't quite the same. Was the talent back then so much better than what's on the air today? I worked with Dick Carr, Mike Novak, and a host of others that pretty much are icons of Fresno radio past. That's the "bar" for me - good talent when radio was local and entertaining. Like many, I listened to Dean on KKDJ not for the music, but for the characters they brought to life. If they (Dean and Don) or Dean returned to the air, I'd listen - that's for certain. How many listen to Chris Daniel because of him slipping in and out of his KRZR persona each afternoon - it's a return to what once was if only for a minute. But, just as Chris on KMJ is no "Front Row", Dean on KJOI wouldn't be the same as it was on KKDJ, Y94 or KCLQ.

I will say this, Jim has done a great job with KJOI, and I would hope at some time they can move to another channel, go to full power and commercial, if only to do more with what's a pretty decent foundation for something unique. Knowing Dean's love for the golden age of radio and music of the past, a weekend show of standards and the stories behind the music would be a great add. Granted, I'm almost in that target demographic of 70 year old raisin farmers and vines within a short distance of Biola, but 104.3/100.5 is a good place to hang out for some great music.

I talked to someone who stated that Todd Lopes and Verne White put KJOI together for the owner, yes they did a great job, music is really good!
 
Three months ago, the great Gary Cocola came up with a wild idea- putting me on the air as Dean At Dawn along with the legendary Raechel Donahue in San Diego and David Hefferman in Santa Barbara, with music by Jeff Riedel and cinematics by Rafael Carmany from Cobalt Creative in Fresno. Dean At Dawn would be heard weekdays 6-10am on KJOI-FM as well as live streamed via YouTube, Facebook, and smart speakers globally. Dean At Dawn was to be simulcast on local TV with repeats airing 24/7 on an all Dean At Dawn TV channel and a dedicated Dean At Dawn website, where highlights of the show would be offered as downloads, podcasts and media on demand TBA. Much planning and prep went into the project with Cocola providing a fully equipped TV studio and mobile video truck. What was particularly interesting to me was the fact KJOI is a non-commercial station which meant Dean At Dawn would be 100% listener supported like public radio. While a donation page was privately posted, it wasn't made public pending various tests to make sure it functioned correctly. Meanwhile, a great deal of comedy was created in anticipation of the Dean At Dawn debut scheduled for Thursday, June 7th. Then came news that our benefactor and executive producer, Gary Cocola, was gravely ill and would be unable to oversee the launch of this very ambitious and technically complicated production. And so, Dean At Dawn was put on hold until further notice. An interesting footnote: In the commotion surrounding the show's cancellation, we'd forgotten all about the donation page until it suddenly went viral even though it had never been officially launched! Refunds were immediately issued by KJOI-FM, underwriters of the Dean At Dawn project. I've been in a state of shock in the aftermath, particularly since this is the fourth time in the last two years that I've been hired to bring the fun back to local radio, only to see the offers rescinded, reneged, bullshit in the first place or ended by what the insurance people call An Act Of God. And who am I to argue with that? Until next time, please pray for a true broadcast pioneer, Gary Cocola. With love to all, Dean Opperman.

Just called Mr Cocola’s office they say not true probably a hoax
