There are renewed concerns about the health of longtime ABC anchorman Peter Jennings.
Although I have not seen it (and at this writing, 5 P.M. EDT August 7th, it's not yet on their website), a friend posted in their Livejournal that Fox News is reporting that the popular anchorman, who recently turned 67, is in "grave condition".
And the Newsblues website is reporting (subscription required) that ABC has alerted "some affiliates to prepare for the death of Peter Jennings".
Since I don't subscribe to Newsblues, I ask that anyone that does summarize what they are reporting and share that summary with us.
The National Ledger website has a roundup of the speculation over Jennings' health.
Although Jennings was diagnosed with lung cancer a few months ago, and has not been on the air since that diagnosis, I hope the rumors are wrong. I'd love to see him make a triumphant return to "World News Tonight". If he indeed does beat cancer and is able to come back, I think he would stay at "WNT" through January of 2009 so that he would be able to anchor the inauguration of President Bush's successor, who will have been elected in November of 2008. After that, I could see Jennings go off into retirement.
