At $13 mil, no wonder he's smiling. Begs the question, now, of how much Vieira will be paid, and, further, whether there will be a conflict of egos on the Today set once the two begin sharing face time. Inevitable yet interesting issues as the peacock spreads its feathers on the "new" Today Show.

Vieira is getting $10mil. That's a $5million saving for GE.
You obviously didn't watch the full press conference. No egos,
Lauer and Vieira have been getting periodic face time
since initial dinner meeting at Matt's house in CT last fall.
(Zucker knew all along Katie was walking so he got Matt and Meredith
together very early on in the process). They got a chance to develop
off-air chemistry even before their first show together so I wouldn't
worry so much about any kind 'conflicts' on or off the set.

No "worry" whatsoever. Just wondering. And. no, I didn't watch the whole schmear. Didn't care to.

I Told You So !

In the post that was recently deleted when this site crashed, I had written that GE would do almost anything to keep Lauer under contract, and this new contract proves I was right.
Losing both Couric and Lauer would not only have been bad P R for NBC, but would have jeopardized "The Today Show’s” number #1 standing in the ratings.
As for Meredith Viera and Lauer getting along, I don't believe you will see a replay of the infamous Bryant Gumble/Deborah Norville incident. Lauer is not the egotistic pompous ass that Gumble is. And Viera isn't out of her league, like Norville was when she first started with "Today".
