New Country Grammy Category

I guess there might have been a strong reaction to Beyonce winning the Best Country Album Grammy this year. The Grammy people have decided to create TWO Country Album categories. One for contemporary and the other for traditional. Not sure which category Beyonce would fit in:

My issue with Beyonce is the fact that her Cowboy Carter release could be her only country music acknowledgement. Dolly recently did a pop album, but will it be getting any award show attention at all? I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't and it is because pop music is not what she is mainly known for, and it isn't what she wants to be known for ever I am guessing. Darius Rucker scored the CMA Best New Artist award in 2009, but his decision to make himself at home in country music is the reason why I never objected to him getting the award especially when he hasn't gotten anything else other than the Grammy award for Best Country Solo when he released the "Wagon Wheel" song. To me, that award needs to be the way that it used to be. Males and females should not be against each other for one solo performance award. Too many awesome performances in my opinion have been overlooked ever since that award started getting handed out.

God bless you and all living singers always!!!

P.S. The Best Country Collaboration Grammy needs to be resurrected too because too many collaborations have been cold shouldered since they are now placed within the Duo/Group Performance category.

I actually think this is a good idea, regardless of the Beyonce project. Country music has been getting extremely diverse lately, with a bunch of fantastic artists making more traditional music. However, they're not getting much spotlight right now, nor are they getting much airplay. The exception here seems to be Zach Top.

But artists like Charlie Crockett and Tyler Childers are putting out really great music that should be recognized. There are splits like this in other genres and considering how hot country is right now, this absolutely makes sense.

If anything, maybe the Beyonce thing made more folks realize just how big the "country music" tent has gotten. I don't think splitting the category like this diminishes anything - it just acknowledges the variety in country music.

I'm looking forward to more great country musicians getting spotlighted in the future! This might even lead to some of those lesser known traditional artists get a bit more recognition and airplay.

^^^ I second what you say. I pray that we see John Foster from American Idol fame and Mason get Grammy nominated someday. "Tell That Angel, I Love Her" from John needs to be in there for Best Country Song. :) :) :)

God bless you and him and Mason always!!!
