Monmouth county is now Monmouth country! Kudos to Millennium for having the guts to put a country station on WADB! The name of the station is "shore country 1310". What do you guys think?

I haven't heard it yet. Is it live and local or is it satellite? Or do I even need to ask? Are the Levys still simulcast in AM drive? If it's just a satellite jukebox, don't look for ratings to grow much. If they're going to make it a real Monmouth County radio station, then maybe they'll have something.

Somewhat good news for country fans.....now one of these companies needs to flip one of the "useless" Northern NJ signals to country. Something that would cover Bergen County and the surrounding areas well.

Well if I were a betting man I would be willing to say that it won't be AM-1360, WNNJ-AM. "Been there done that" kind of thing...

Back to the future...

Formerly known as WJLK, 1310 was previously Country until 1997 or so, when it was flipped to Adult Standards as WADB to carry on the legacy of former Easy Listening station 95.9 WADB. (The same thing later happened in Washington, DC, with Adult Standards 1260 WGAY created after the demise of Easy Listening 99.5 WGAY. 1260 later flipped back to a talk format, though.)

Unfortunately, due to the FCC cramming three 1310's in the state of NJ (what were they smoking!??), WADB's signal is so limited that you have almost no chance of hearing it anywhere outside of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Country really belongs on a station like 94.7 WFME in Newark, but if 94.7 ever gets sold, it will most likely become another Urban or Spanish-language station aimed squarely at New York City.

Alas, the humble Stirling Country 1070 WKMB is gone but still not forgotten....

It is a good idea; check it out.....remember, most of the signal will shoot northwest, away from NYC and into the suburban homes that want and need the format......congrads to WADB!!!<P ID="signature">______________

> There are probably more people in Monmouth County who would have listened to the so called "WADB" if it had a good signal than there are people who will listen to Country 1310. First, I was a part of the original WADB-FM the fondly remembered "Stereo By the Sea" and, believe me, WADB 1310 never came close.
The transmitter move by WJLK-AM from Bangs avenue to a poorly selected transmitter site with propagation issues was a big mistake...and is to this day.
For a station to even have a shot a making it, regardless of format, you have to be able to pick it up. I know of no fish at sea with radios. Monmouth County is not a country market. Few AM stations today are capable of success with a music format. The WMTR's of the world are the rare exceptions.Even WMID with its WMTR near clone format has yet to see similar ratings success.WCMC has an audience that is small but loyal and very local...and at least has Jim McMillan live in the morning. There is a market for what WCMC does down there in Wildwood....albeit a shrinking audience. The chances are even less if this new country station is not live and local. Country radio, done well, extends beyond the music....it relates to the locals. Country Music on 1310? If I were a betting man, I'd bet against it. Even WKMB didn't make it. As one station staffer told me, "If people were listening and advertiisers were buying, "Stirling Country" would not have been sold.

It doesn't even cover much of Monmouth & Ocean Counties with a decent signal.

Herb Michels owned and operated WKMB for enjoyment, not for monetary gain -- and that was always evident in its programming. When Herb passed away and his sons took over, they didn't share that same vision. After the demise of "Y-107", Stirling Country could have expanded its listener and advertiser base, but that would've taken a sizeable investment in an upgraded transmitter site and new equipment, and they most likely didn't see it as a worthwhile risk.
Even the new owners of WKMB have fallen short on their ambitious plans to upgrade, and are still skimping by with the same ailing 250-watt tube-type transmitter. For now, they are mostly getting by by selling out the station's airtime as paid programming, and of course since the owners are part of a church, they are always asking listeners for donations.

Agreed there. BTW, when were you at the original WADB? I was there from 1973 through 1978. Were you at the reunion last year?

1310 had FM competition the first time from WYNY, maybe this time as the only game in town they'll make it successful. Back around then WOBM-AM was also satellite fed country programming, too.
