A new device, Abbee strips out radio ads ... and "DJ chatter".
USA Today reporter says
"Abbee: With the portable plugged in. I initially left Abbee tuned to WCBS-FM, a New York City oldies station. After nearly 24 hours, the radio recorded just seven songs. By the next day, the number had reached 60, still a long way from 500. If you tune Abbee to a new FM station, it'll take the same 24 hours or so to create a profile and start recording. If you have available memory, you can carry a combination of songs from different stations."

Good? Bad? Pros/Cons?

Why waste $250 for this device, you can just listen to an Ipod or CDs. When listening to a music radio station I enjoy the DJ talk. A good radio personality knows about the music and enhances the broadcast. Why throw out the baby with the bath water?

WCBS-FM is no longer considered an oldies station; they're either "classic hits" or "New York's greatest hits." No wonder newspapers like USA Today are failing.

And speaking of failures, if a unit like that is going to perform far less than its expectations, there's no sense in running out and getting one today.
 
This sounds like the dumbest idea for a product ever. You pay $250 for this thing and you get stuck with FM-sound quality copies of all the crappy songs that get played on FM radio. There are so many places on the internet to get better sound quality and better variety, and for free!

I'd pay for the inverse - an "automatic aircheck scoper". Leaves in the jocks, jingles, ID's, etc. They'd have a few on this board that would LOVE to have one...
 
When I first saw that device, I couldn't believe that the RIAA would allow such a thing to be available. It is basically a tool to steal music. Rather than spend time and money suing college kids and single moms, the RIAA should prevent the crime from happening in the first place.

I would rather the RIAA go f themselves, but to each his own. ;D

In who's mind are they not an oldies station?
 
people flee from the word 'oldies';
they're afraid that people might be reminded of the aging process,Lord Forbid!
