New Direction for Mix?

I heard Nirvanna's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on Mix last night. And the imaging sounds new.

Are they shifting their demo?

A word of advice: Drop the Mix label. It was tired after the first 6 months--in, what, 1985?
 
They've always been playing Nirvana, I also notice they played Bush's "Glycerine" too. I've always wondered if they're taking Edge listeners away because of Lex & Terry??
 
This isn't a new deal. The issue is ever since CC nixed The Eagle, the CC Dallas regime has been sort of cluster____. Just look at CC Houston's array of stations and their formats. The only difference is The Buzz is a shade more alternative than The Edge.

Houston's version of Mix is pretty much considered "Buzz Lite" with a more female skew. Over the years they've completely shed the Baby Boomer AC demos.
 
Well about the only good thing about Mix is the mid-day jock. She has been there a long time, I think her name is Lisa Thomas???

Tony ZaZa and Cappy SUCK in the morning. I'm having to listen to them now
that Lite FM has pulled the Christmas crap............of course, I'd still be listening
to The Oasis if the yahoo's at CBS hadn't pulled it off the air.............

What do you think their demo is? And why do you think SLTS doesn't fit it?

Cause I think that that song is what 15 years old? If you're going for a 25-45 year old audience that's right in their wheelhouse, and it's SO freaking mainstream it's not like it's going to turn off a lot of people...You could get a lot more obscure with 'flannel bands' that rock if you were really looking to shift demos...

I think the Mix night girl played it because it reminds her of her Partner ;)

Her name is indeed Lisa Thomas and she is one of the greatest people in radio (or anywhere else) that you could meet. She is going through a very difficult time right now www.kdmx.com but I know she is strong and she and Jess will make it! Say a prayer for Lisa.

As far as Tony and Cappy go - as bad as they do suck - they are better than the awful Gene & Julie (major puke) - that said -Tony should be doing overnights and Cappy should be in the promotions dept. That show tanked after Julie Fisk was cut - she carried that show. I loves me some Jasmine on Jagger but I do miss Julie!!!
 
and last nite I heard Neil Diamond's Potsmoker Song from his Velvet Gloves and Spit album. Yes, MIX is getting very edgy indeed.

Yeah, Lisa Thomas is her name. I've always enjoyed listening to her on Mix. She has been there a long time. :) I don't know what problems she is experiencing right now, but I hope she gets through them.

As for Tony and Cappy, they need to go and soon !! They are so bad, the only reason I am listening to them in my bathroom radio is because of KVIL playing all that DREADED Christmas music !! Gene and Julie are bad as well, but to me, not nearly as bad as Tony and Cappy.

They did this bit last Friday I believe to see if this guy was cheating on his girlfriend and it was soooooo lame. They didn't even have the girl's phone line on mute, so the boyfriend couldn't hear her. They were going to "set him up" good, the boyfriend that is, and then the stupid girlfriend started blurting out immediately that she knew he was cheating on her. They suck !! They should have put the girlfriend's phone line on mute until they were ready to bring her on to confront the boyfriend after they had set him up. Bad planning !!

I hear ya, enough is enough! If Clear Channel had brains, they could change 97.1 to smooth jazz that way these clowns can be happy.
 
Well the only reason I am listening to them in the morning right now is that there is nothing else on..............I will change back over to KVIL once the holiday music crap quits..........but it isn't much better.

I understand, the suits have made up their minds. Whatever minds they have. They truly aren't bright, by any means.........a lot of formats could have been pulled before Smooth Jazz.

Oh well..............

Tony and Cappy still suck. :)
