Can you point to evidence that it didn't succeed? Ms. Layne clearly stated she opted not to renew her contract because she didn't want to do the commute any more (and chose not to move; people make those decisions sometimes). This isn't a "Oh my God, the bottom fell out of the ratings" situation.
Moreover, maybe it doesn't matter if the combination is two females, or a guy and a girl...just that it's a combination listeners will respond to. The speculation that all males would be removed was just that--speculation.

There are a lot of talented people out there in this area who'd be great on B. They could have even dug into their past and brought someone back (Dave Packer, Jason Lee, Donna Rowland). Or, a guy who's there now, Brian Murphy would have been great. I'm sure this new guy is good and I don't mean to disrespect him. I just wish they could have found someone who knows this area.
