New DJ on Star

There was an English guy on Star 101.3 yesterday afternoon. Anybody know who he is. Is it just a fill in or full time replacement? Live and local or voice tracked? Is he really British or is it a fake accent? ;)

Think he's from New Zealand...Can't remember his name though.

The bloke's name is Andrew Jefferies from New Zeland. He has programmed for the past 9 years in London, England. Most likely Signal Cheshire.

He's the new PD for Signal Star 101 San Francisco. He will also be a presenter. You heard him presenting yesterday afternoon. BTW, I heard Sylvia Chacon presenting over the weekend. So much for weekends off for full-time presenters.

"Cheerio"

Don't cry for Sylvia. She probably stays late once a week following a weekday shift for an hour to voice-track that weekend show. And if the new weekday afternoon 'bloke' is live, he's the first live afternoon show in the last few years. Unless Star has changed direction, everything but Don Bleu and Chacon on weekdays is voice-tracked.

I heard him last week on the morning show, thought he sounded nice. Lets just hope CC keeps him long enough to get a green card.

Must be exciting for the other 2 Star Employee's...They gotta be thinking "Man this place is sure getting crowded"

I see on the web site (www.star1013fm.com) that Afternoon dude, Darren McPeake's name and bio is gone."

Ah - poor Darren, we hardly knew ye. Especially considering you only opening the mic for about 2 minutes an hour.

Actually, if you google Darren, you'll find this link: http://dev.star1013fm.com/pages/jock_darren.html. I've noticed before that when DJs leave a station, the lazy webmasters just go in and delete the link, but don't bother to take the page down until much later.

For months after MOViN 99.7 came on the air, you could still google "Cammy and Dean" and pull up their KFRC page.

Yes, I know...I have too much time on my hands...

I hope this guy Jeffries has a clue how to fix STAR because it hasn't sound so confused since 2000 when it was still K101 (before it went ALL 80's)...Haven't heard Jeffries, but if management is listening, there aren't too many Brit's or New Zealanders walkin' around. He'd do well to have an Asian or Hispanic accent rather than Britsh or New Zealand...it may turn off more listeners than it attracts. Look at the ratings from ALice (SF) and KBIG (LA) when they had Brit sounding talent on, the ratings went lower than they already were. Just something to think about! AND it doesn't matter what content or infotainment they provide!

Chuckie, is that you?

Does this mean that references to Apple-Fried Rabbit EarsTM and figure skating competitions in Havana, Cuba, will follow?

(Anyone not familiar with ba.broadcast should simply head off to the next post...)

glad to see nobody is trying to judge the book by the cover. it would do you all well to do your research on the new pd of star before making your assessment. it will save you embarassment later. his qualifications would be hard to beat by anyone here in the US. you can find more info at www.jeffriesmedia.com. it pretty much speaks for itself. listen to some of the station composites, launches, video marketing tools and you'll understand why i'm saying good luck KLLC, KOIT, KMVQ.

You may very well be correct, but I'd wait & see. Plenty of talented PD's with great track records have had their clocks cleaned. Sometimes a station or the owners, the competition or just the dial position have made a great PD irrelevant. But I will say he's got the credentials.

The sole factor is whether the station attracts the listeners management is trying to reach. And remember that those numbers don't show in the Arbitrons released to the public.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this...perhaps nobody posting here actually listens to Star 101.3.

I've tuned it in a few times in the afternoon lately...I'm not really a fan of new pop music. But each time, the DJ has not been the new guy, but Carolyn McArdle. Andrew Jeffries may be running the show, but he's not on air. Other than Bleu and Chacon, McArdle is the only other person that gets a page on the Star website, though they list her as a weekend jock only. She definitely provides more content than the late unlamented...uh..whatzishame?...Darren. Is she live or tracked? Can't tell.

Lew, I heard Jefferies on over the weekend, tracked I think. He had his young son with him. I heard this whole exchange about shopping for mothers day gifts...Just too cute for me to take, so I went back to KGO. ;)
