New DTV station in Phoenix

KFPB-LD 50.x has finally decided to grace us with its presence, after being licensed three months ago. Four subchannels airing color bars since yesterday. The analog station on channel 30, a notorious phantom since its HTV days on K30ES in Globe about 10 years ago, was last seen broadcasting infomercials from Usery Mountain in Mesa. Man, I hope the DTV opus of KFPB isn't infomercials X 4 - what a waste of bandwidth that would be!

No one carries America One or White Springs TV in Phoenix. For Christian programming, there's CTVN (Cornerstone TV), CTN (Christian TV Net), FamilyNet or LeSEA. Several options en español: Mega TV, VasalloVision or LATV. Probably at least one subchannel will be infomercials.

Anyone care to speculate?

Though it doesn't say anything now, the website for independent "Video Zona TV" used to mention KFPB as an affiliate. Who knows if it still will be, but that's the only hint I have.

Are they off the air temporarily? I've been getting "Channel not found" on my TV when I tune to 50.anything for about a week.

Looks like it. Last weekend, they were using virtual channel 3, then early in the week, they stopped broadcasting altogether. I'm not sure what to make of it; as K30ES in Globe, they were silent (or at least unavailable in the Globe area) for years before moving to Mesa. Once in Mesa, they broadcast for a short time, then went silent for an extended period. Is the same pattern of behavior occurring again?

KPHE-LD is trying to get off channel 16 - the FCC is ready to grant a channel change to 31 - due to being between two full-power signals, KNXV-TV and KPHO-TV. I cannot imagine KFPD-LD on channel 50 is having any better of a time being between KASW and KPPX.

Well, they're back, and they brought a friend. Video Zona TV on ch 50.1 and paid Christian programming on ch 50.3. Color bars still on 50.2 and 50.4.

Is it paid Christian from a network or just something local?

It is the "PromiseLand Television Network" out of Dallas. The audio and video quality is that of Windows Media 128k streaming.

Wow, seriously? The same PromiseLand that's in bankruptcy as we speak?

Gee.

That is correct. I was scratching my head too.

PromiseLand is only one of the offerings. After an hour of their telethon/fundraiser, the station went to broadcasting something else that didn't seem to be related to PromiseLand.

The TV broadcast matched the online stream almost exactly - brief delay on TV of < 1 sec.

PromiseLand Television is no more. Having switched Video Zona TV to channel 50.3 and adding Restauracion TV to channel 50.4, KFPB has now made channel 50.1 Casa TV. Content seems to be Spanish-language Christian, but at this time, programming has just been footage from a concert with no commercials, interrupted every now and again by a promo for Casa TV in which it identifies as channel 50.1, but gives no call sign or city. I can find no information at all on Casa TV, on KPFB, or on its owner, Globe LPTV.

So here's the KFPB-LD lineup, as of 12/13/10:

50.1 Casa TV
50.2 Infomercials
50.3 Video Zona TV
50.4 Restauracion TV
