New Emergency LPFM in Houston on 95.3?

http://www.rwonline.com/dailynews/index.php

Apparently the FCC has rushed thru a application to provide refugees at the Astrodome their own radio station on 95.3MHZ at 30 watts

The application was by radio volunteers led by community media publishing group Houston Indymedia and is to be called the "Katrina Aftermath Media Project".

The radio world website lists it as being oked by the FCC but as of Wednesday night, no license was listed on their website.

Wow...I think its pretty darn rare that the FCC allows a temporary station on the air...that's so British...

Interesting...really interesting...

Its really interesting in light of the information that most of the "refugees" have left Houston anyway, according to the Houston Chronicle. They reported yesterday that the number of people at the Astrodome was now under 3,000, and with similar reductions at George R. Brown and Reliant Park.

Anyway, this is supposed to be temporary housing until the people can get with relatives or others and get on with their lives.

Just get them a little broadcast unit from C Crane company and fire it up - if you read the article mentioned it sounds like a big production, with having to provide receivers for the people left in the dome as well. It all sounds so stupid.

Glad it was killed. The idea is to get the people OUT of the Astrodome and into a more permanent housing, either in Houston or elsewhere. With under 3,000 remaining in the Astrodome, I don't know what they'd do with 10,000 radios, but I have a suggestion. ;)
