New England Cable News - The Sometimes News Station ?

It was real annoying to turn on NECN this afternoon as this area was under strong thunderstorm warnings and find that all NECN was telecasting was informercials for ladders and outside grills.

You would think that a station that calls themselves a News Station would have some procedure for breaking into their regular "informercials" to bring you breaking news on the News Station.

Did they get a call from the National Weather Service asking them to withhold the weather forecast in the name of national security....just like that unnamed news radio station? Or maybe, they were withholding the weather until the fall rating period.

Satire aside, NECN has to do better on Sundays. They act as if no news could break out when they run informercials and that is not very professional.

Come on NECN!, You are a news station, but I don't want you running infomericals Saturday and Sundays, I want you to be an all news station.

IMHO running informericals AT ALL on a news channel is unprofessional.

Yes, it SHOUTS " We are Minor League."

I agree they can't call themselves a 24 hour news station when they are playing infomercials throughout the weekend. 2a-5a i dont mind, but during the day is awful.

HOWEVER, i dunno if NECN could be called minor league. they are the top regional news station in the country...thats not an underachiever...in the same breath, again, i hear ya on the infomercials.

It's also a shame

that they only are live as very minimal as possible.

They are live less than the local stations are!
The taped loop rebroadcast with the same stale news
(that isn't even New England news to boot!), is pathetic.

The reason they are the largest regional station, is thanks to
Comcast forcing it down the throats of all the subs outside of
Boston who want to watch real Boston news via a Boston affiliate
and can't

Re: NECN Is Fraudulent

NECN is not an accurate name. It covers virtually no news from the other five New England states on a regular basis. It doesn't even cover much outside of Rt. 128 in Massachusetts! It should change the name to reflect reality GBCN = Greater Boston Cable News.

Then there is the whole taped loop rebroadcast...they have to interrupt themselves with breaking news! I also agree that running infomercials is pathetic. NECN is a fraud in many ways.

Yea, I hear ya! Infomercials are tough to take at times but
you have to pay the bills and salaries when you program nothing but
news in the morning and night. I don't blame them for
that. They're still a solid news source, though.
And, Tom Ellis should definitely go with a darker
shade of brown next time he visits his hair stylist.

They don't even cover that much Boston news.
They spend too much time covering too many national stories.
We all ready have a minimum of three channels to watch National News.
If I want to see Nat. News, I'll go there.

There is enough NEW ENGLAND news to fill a half hour!

A better name for them is CNNWB (CNN Wanna Be)

NWCN (NorthWest Cable News) out in the Pacific Northwest does news 24 hours a day WITHOUT infomercials! They have thrived for over 10 years!

Yes, but ratings and im pretty sure income-wise, NECN takes the cake by far. NECN is beating Fox in cable ratings on a regular basis.
